Probably - but I still love that we're discussing this stuff in 2010!

Yes, that I deem as an acceptable explanation. I thought of another one:
Ref: No residences above 3500M. That's fair enough, probably frozen all year round.
Being at 4000M it would stand to reason it was frozen storage. Why else would anyone require a structure above the "permanent snowline"?

Many civilisations place food into long term storage. In the tropics bananas are dried and powdered and placed into the ground by various native communities.

That's my 2 bob's worth

Cheers Marty

I know where all that is, in the air above Melbourne

Wouldn't be surprised the boat was built where it was found. Did it ever see water other than the ice it is frozen in.

I'd be very happy for the "debate" to become less one side scientifically if reports like this turned out to have some validity Baz.
As stated above - I'm unhappy that we're fearful of debating religious v's scientific issues - I reckon the truth is out there and is open to discussion. The truth should never offend!
Unfortunately getting to the truth often does!!!!

I don't mind healthy discussion on these issues either Doug, but I am not going to do it here. The forum strictly says not to. Time and time again this gets ignored.

It looks it is allowed to go on anyway, regardless of the rules. So I will just go back to photography subjects.

Later.

We all fall short Baz,
It's so easy to take a cheap shot at religion.
Apologies for my lack of respect.

In this case ' a flood' - so he dedides to save some livestock, his livestock, builds a small vessel to withstand the impending disaster and manages to survive it. Time and mythology start to blend into a much expanded version of the event.
Millenia later Chinese evangelists find the vessel.
Yeah they may indeed have found Noah's Ark - but that doesn't make the biblical story true.
Not a bad story but not what happened. I can't say any more just yet.

Apropos whether this is a atheist vs jew/christian/muslim debate I would conjecture that many in the latter category won't be convinced that this 'discovery' is genuine either.

This story has been a factual find and with that is open for debate. I would have quite happy for the report to say they found a 4800 year old shed or boat, but the finders stipulate with 99.9% accuracy that it is the ark (isn't this the third time).

Good find and for science buffs there will be a logical explanation.

I was gonna say something else but would close the thread immediately
