Yay!

I got my new shiny iMac 27" Quad core with 8G RAM, 2TB HDD and 1GB Video Card this week. Well the first thing I did was change the mouse (I like a big heavy mouse and the mac mouse was giving me cramps). The second thing I did was install World of Warcraft and boy does it look like pure sweetness *grin*.

I then installed VMWare fusion and put Win7 into a virtual machine... OMG! I'm running it in isolated mode instead of seamless mode mainly to keep them separated.

The unity function is seamless. It's fast even with only using one core and 2GB of RAM. I installed Steam and played some games (Half Life 2 etc) and they are great! The audio has a few hiccups but so far the graphics and fps (frames per second) have been phenomenal!

I may dual boot it using BootCamp if I need more Win7 power but hopefully not, I got annoyed at having to dual boot my old computer as running VM on it just didn't work well (it's old and needs to be put out to pasture).

Thanks to both Chris and Trevor who offered some good advice in regards to Fusion

When it comes to virtualisation My boy Trevor is the expert. I went to the Synantec vision 2010 last Tuesday. Trevor did a presentation on security in the virtual world. He knows his stuff!

For us he is trying to make all the astro programs into thin-apps so that they run on any machine without needing to be installed.

I luuurve my 27" iMac too Simon. Good on you - you'll love it. I personally really like the MagicMouse - so if you don't want it let me know - I'll donate something to take it off your hands...

I've been running Fusion 3 for a while now - very nice indeed.

When I ordered the iMac I swapped the wireless k/b and MagicMouse for the wired versions as I wanted the k/b with the number pad and the extra buttons the wired mouse provided but I have found the mouse not so easy for me to use thus the Logitech MX518 gaming mouse is better for me. If you want the wired mouse then I'm happy to part with it.

I ended up grabbing Fusion 3.1 from the website, well worth the investment.

LOL! Thanks Simon, but I prefer the wireless MagicMouse. What extra buttons does the wired version has I don't need. I really like the gesture-sensitive MM the way it is. Once I was truly used to it, I couldn't think of using any other type of mouse now.

I just got a wireless magic mouse, too. It's great !! Not having to clean the little ball on the mighty mouse is such a relief. It was driving me nuts !!

Cheers
PS: I've only got a 2GHz Intel core 2 Duo, 2GB. The quad sounds awesome !!

Sorry, not in charge of hiring, but there are plenty of jobs here. The only caveat is that you must like "running", the action doesn't stop and if you cant keep up, you will be left behind.

The first 3 months are the hardest, they call it "drinking from the fire hose".
