finished the vanes up. OMG its soooo much easier to collimate with thumb screws and the accuracy is a load better now. So here is the finished product.

Very nice indeed. The stock grub screws are evil

I came across Rolf Wahl Olsen's website. Looks like the ol' 10" newt can produce some some great results. I'm surprised that I don't see more posts on AP with these guys...

Yes indeed they can produce great shots! there is a lot of real estate to capture light on it!

I was able to get everything set up for the clouds to come right on in ;( but I captured a ultra quick unguided happy snap of a mag 3 ish star. No guiding, no processing, quick focus, this is how it landed in nebulosity saved and posted! Promising for a start.

I will do some more comprehensive shots this week coming

Regarding focus problems on newtonians with a DSLR (aka not enough in-travel): DO NOT CUT THE OTA UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED ALL OTHER AVENUES!

If you have a Skywatcher Newt and can't reach focus with you DSLR - fiddle with the adapters that Skywatcher provide, some of them come apart and your DSLR T-ring threads right on!

I was very close to cutting mine before Brendan gave me the above advice.

Hope this helps.

I'm glad that this thread is helping people along. I still believe that a well tuned newt is as good as most mid level refractors.

It definately can produce crisp clear shots that show great details now all i need to do is make this white polished 7urd to work well too maybe i might look at AO to capture the PE. or just purchase a EM500 or AP 1200GTO. Though that is still a little way away as yet.

I think the next step will be to start looking at weight reduction either CF tubing or aluminium tubing not sure yet but it will happen.

oh Yugent. im still waiting for that 50k non refundable deposit then ill hand deliver it for you heee

You need to put the MPCC solution in here somewhere too. You could list the changes with links for the documentation. We need a wiki for scopes and mods I reckon.

And People ......

Brendan's pretty good too with the tech side of "fixing" the EQ6 as well - recently after having success with hypertuning my first EQ6 Pro (black older model), I got the itch again and dismantled and hypertuned my newer EQ6 Pro (white model) and blast it; things started going awry quite alot and finally after having pulled almost all my hair bald; not that there was much left anyways; I called upon "Batman"; ooops! I mean Brendan and he came over and taught this old dog some new tricks eh!! And finally the beast is singing and dancing away again with PTFE-smoothness

Thanks Brendan and I do agree that you should document more stuff online here so that we can all pinch your ideas, make zillions and leave you to get those pics with your astrograph in peace, mate!

Cheers
Bill

Hmmm... weight reduction. Keep that conversation going. It would be great to only use 3x5kg weights. Mind you - the BM Finder Guider and Puck does heaps for this... v.s. having to carry a darn ED80 on top!!!
