Finally another little thing that helps is the fact that my observatory has a white roof. This was a really good move (to order the shed with a white roof) since as you can imagine it reflects heat and light away really well.

Anyhow let us know whether you'll be taking the lx200.

Clear Skies

PS. Can you really only see 22 stars from your place ?

Paul

on that night Paul there was the dog track plus the uni plus whaqtever else on the sky was murky and I literally counted only 22 stars! Scott may vouch for me on that!!

As for the LX200, at this stage I will, if I can get someone to help me pack it. Have fun gotoing!!!

Geeday,

Arrr yes the dog track - I can see the light from that at my place. It's good the know what the timetables are for such events so you can plan astro nights around them.

I find the best astro-nights tend to be Sunday nights because people go to bed earlier (for work on Monday), there are rarely any Novocastrian sporting events which light the skies (with megawatts of light), and also on Sunday nights there are less local parties, pubs and shops open.

All this (in my humble opinion) usually equates to Sunday through about Wednesday nights generally being the best nights in terms of the least light pollution.

Gee I thought the 12-inch LX200 would have been more portable than it sounds - is it really that heavy ? - I'm sure I could nick down to your place to help you pack it in.

I could always bring my laptop and we could drive your 'scope around by pointing and clicking at celestial objects or do you already have a laptop ?

Do you have a comms. cable for the LX200 ?

Cheers
Paul Mayo

Great shot Paul. Your set up has inspired me to set up my 12 inch for astro photos. Given up buying a mount and working on a suitable mount design.(English Equatorial) I have tried once to see Horse Head with 12inch but could not make it out but I have not flocked the tube yet and as you know there is more contrast to bring out of the 12inch.
