I agree this is not a modest mount, however I will say this; despite the excellent engineering of an AP, it has the most horrendous sound when slewing. Graeme (a mate) has one and it sounds almost as bad as a Meade fork mount when slewing.

Alex you missed one thing and that is the pier adapter and the portable pier itself just to operate this sucker out in the field. You will still need the pier adapters for installation on a pier. I reckon you might be looking at closer to 12k by the time it is landed at your door. Not modest by a long shot.

However, the HEQ5 is certainly modest and that is what I am sure Trevor was talking about when he started this thread.

OT - Fortunately, the pier adaptor is included to attach to what ever you choose - wooden tripod, portable pier, or eagle pier - as your desired "thing" upon which to mount your mount!

Alex was pretty right with his calculation of costs - or at least I hope he is, otherwise I have made a big mistake somewhere...

Gerald's didn't sound as bad as my LX-90, but it's definitely not as quiet as other mounts I've heard.

Yes, very nice pic. But re mounts and the HEQ5 this was taken with, sheesh, remember the OTA was a F/6.7 500mm Refractor, hardly "PME required" (or AP). Composition and processing is where the skill is in this pic.

Hehe, you should hear what a PME sounds like just standing there, without slewing, squeaks like a mouse on ekky .

David,

my mistake. I was under the impression that adapter plate cost more still.

Don't tell me that Fred, I was wanting a PME so I could retire the EM400 just to planetary imaging. Clayton is so still that noise carries for miles and a noisey mount is not really neighbour friendly at 3 am.

Paul, its a quiet kind of friendly squeak typical of tight servo control, lets you know alls well ;-).

Whats really neighbour-bothering is the gaud awefull racket the Optec 3" rotator makes, its just stunning.

Wha tha??? What you talkin'bout Willis? . The NJP is one of the best mounts available, if I were you Hans I'd just do a few pushups and chin ups or hire a lifter (person) like a baby sitter .
