Thanks all, really appreciate the compliments.
Dave, to be honest I reckon you are the RC8 master. Your images have been fabulous.
Chris that is nice to see you enjoyed this image. I guess that is ultimately the reason why we put up our images; so that others can enjoy them.
Gary, sorry I cannot do that at present. Wedding plans are a foot and the construction industry has not recovered yet from recession.
Marcus, yes it is a bit muted for me too, but it seemed like the natural colour to me. I will have another go once I get the final data for the image.
Lester, I am thinking that it will not require much more data. Perhaps another 4 hours worth and then I will be happy with it.

Hi Paul,
I posted an image done with my RCX ( http://tinyurl.com/yzlsuy4) from last year that also had muted colours, this one doesn't seem to have a lot of colour.
I'll be interested to see what the Ha brings out.
Cheers
Stuart

Thanks Mike.
Stuart, yes I remember your image and at the time I was all envious of your fine image. I will do a Ha at some stage on this but there might have to be a little wait for it yet.

What a monster of a galaxy
This galaxy is a big guy but lies so low from my north location that on several attempts it just could not be seen. I have only seen it once 'properly' a few weeks ago from down your way as one of the objects that just HAS to be observed from way down in the south.
Really one of the finest amateur (or other) pics of this object that I can recall. The golden slightly carbon star up top and the subtle ESO 219-25 peeking in from lower left add to the great dust texture.
Thanks for sharing,
Mark

Paul,
my opinion of this galaxy as an imaging subject is pretty harsh and
remember , it's only my opinion.
Because 4945 doesn't 'look' like a traditional , symmetrical , beautiful , edge on
galaxy a lot of people fall short in getting a great image of it!
It's a difficult subject. I've failed miserably, and I can get quite decent
structure of it in some of my mono work with the 12"
Only people really skilled at what they do can make this galaxy look the goods.
Your image is awesome, you're one of those people.
Well done.
Steve

Phwheww!
What a corker! Top work, and agree this shows detail I've never seen before. Congrats on IOTW too Paul!
Wedding? Marriage? Quick - you should be buying that 2nd mount now definitely. Life as you know it could be about to end....!!
(no wait - that happens when the kids come along)

Thanks all, appreciated.
Thanks Marc, humbled by your words.
Steve, wow high praise, thanks so much. I really must get more data on this and make it better.
Rob, don't worry, She has her investments and so do I. We have each others money. Astronomy will not be hampered that I can say. Maybe most other people but we have a nice arrangement when it comes to money and our stuff.

Hey Paul,
You have captured this superbly.
Congratulations.
One of the best of the best I can recall of this wonderful galaxy.
I hope you check your galaxy images for Supernova. There was a 12th magnitude type 2 SN here in 2005 (2005af)

Kudos Paul. This would have to be the best image you've produced with your gear. Very well done.
