Good one, mate. We are fairly fortunate at Ball Bay, as the cyclone approaches the bulk of Cape Hillsborough is deflecting a great deal of wind.

Cheers, Bobj.

Hope your telescopes are wrapped up tight, too. I'll be following its progress closely tonight from the other side of the country. Stay safe everyone! It looks like it means business.

Hamilton Island is Screwed:

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ60...01.94368.shtml

Latest gusts at Haypoint near Mackay (Mackay not reporting) at midnight are 107km/h.

BOM TC map shows this cyclone heading more or less straighht for Bowen, We have some friends who moved up to Bowen this January, pretty sure they're stuffed now unfortunately....

Been following the progress live on the Weatherzone forums, which is just amazing in a way (being able to follow it so closely, I mean). Hamilton island certainly copping the worst of it right now. Good thing they evacuated nearly everyone off the islands. Reports are it will reach the mainland in the next hour. Looking nasty, its the real deal.

202km/h gust now recorded at Hamilton Island.

Pretty sure my mates in Bowen are about to get pasted big time, which sucks as they just moved there and are in the middle of renovating their property.

Yes they probably are. Eyewall just reaching Proserpine. Crazy temps being reported from inside the eye and people are wondering if they're true or just faulty equipment. Have to admit its been fascinating watching the progress, but the ground reports don't sound pretty.

Hi guys were are still here mackay is going to leave the distructive wind zone shortly we have kept power all night probably the only suburb to do so as we are on the Main hospital power grid and that is preserved at all costs its been pretty scary all the same the house has stood up to the storm real well and we are fine.

Thanks lots of trees down and flying tin that only just missed the house still very windy and lots of rain not game to go anywhere yet as conditions are still bad but I think the danger has passed. I don't know about Airlie Beach and Proserpine who got the brunt of the storm hope all are ok
