I'm quite often called a "Proper Merchant" by my employees. I thought they were reffering to my commercial savvy.
I may have to flog one or two.

Hi Marty,
My apologies if I appeared difficult, the matter of penguins and other collective nouns is a point of discussion that is often raised on the boat after a hard days sailing and a few glasses of scotch, and it is as enjoyable there as it is here.
Greg.

Hi Greg,
No need to apologise. I was just tryin' to be funny and hard to get along with .
It is however, an interesting avenue, this subject on collective nouns.
Smack of jellyfish
Tidings of Magpies
Clutter of cats
mischief of rats
A gaze of astronomers??????
Cheers Marty

It's only offensive if the context was contextually vulgar and directed at you, a play of word usage as the one you suggested as being offensive, is in fact quite witty
You can if you look and find fault or offensiveness in nearly everything said or done it's whether you are mature enough to accept banalitly in the context it was meant and also accept the fact that your interpretation on vulgarity may not be everyone's.
Point is you may find what was written as offensive others not and therefore in the context it was written is quite acceptable.

And say no more Trevor ... Its a really light hearted thread topic and if one is going to join it but only to point out that in some obtuse way that someones comment is offensive then to coin a phrase .. "I feel sorry for them".
If I was them I'de read nothing, listen to nothing and watch nothing .. else they find something that they can jumble a few letters up and take a few away until they've found something offensive .. Oh Please.

I hope you mean "thread" there, Trevor.
As for penguins, how about "a wedding party"?
