Hello!
Regarding 8" scope: I see that the scope has a 2" focuser. Is prime focus focusing attainable with a CANON 500D SLR? It has 44mm distance beteen mounting plane and sensor.

Hallo Soren,
I am a visual observer, so I can't tell you the answer.
I do know that some astro-imagers cut the tube a bit shorter on some Newtonian Scopes to accommodate imaging.
(You probably should address this question to the Astro-Photography forum in this web site.)

i have used this exact OTA with a Canon 1000d without any mods

you should be just fine
