Sorry Rob, Saturday was a washout, up to midday the skies were lovely, forecast looked OK so I headed off. As I drove, more and more cl;ouds formed, socked in by time I got there.
Bit sad but there you go!
Such a long way to go for clouds.

What exactly is this "rain" of which you speak? We don't seem to have that.
It's that damp stuff that SAB attracts from the Southern Ocean down there in Melbourne like a magnet. Ours is tropical damp stuff and just as annoying. At least the Dept of Parks and Wildfires isn't smoking us out with burnoffs!!
thanks for the challenge going to a dark sky site for 4 days with my little 8"dob no goto on this scope put a report in when back (fingers crossed for clear weather)

There was once a short story about a man who was a rain god and didn't know and therefore didn't know why the clouds followed him around. Maybe this is your problem.
Got up at 3 after the moon had set to find the comet 81P wild2. It wasn't very bright, but I could see a quite distinct nucleus. Coma looked about 7' dia to me. Didn't see a tail. Not far to hop then to some nice galaxies, especially M104
