JJJ - Whilst I'm sure you are aware I don't like the idea of snakes being killed, I can definitely understand that in your position, its about the only safe option... Protect Thy Younguns!
I knew you'd understand Alex. I don't relish doing it, it's just something that for me, has to be done.

it could have been through a slasher?? or a dog could have gotten to it.

Its nature... Everything eats something else, its natural, its instinct and its survival... and more often than not, disturbing a snake during feeding will result in one thing. a fairly swift defensive move on the snakes part...

Which is probably what you would do if you were at a restaurant and a vegetarian started poking you with a stick to make you spit out your steak...

Would you do the same to a dog? a Koala? or just Snakes? Its good to know that In the thread regarding the welfare of a dog that had been abused, most everyone who posted in the thread expressed their disgust at the mistreatment and abuse of animals, yet its considered perfectly fine to abuse a snake simply because you don't understand them or you fear them...

Great stuff.

it would have 'spat out' (regurgitated) the bat because it cannot escape from you with a full stomach.. they will often do this when scared, threatened or stressed so they can move away quicker.. a snake that has just eaten a meal is very vulnerable to other predators...

I also have to agree with AlexN here as I am into reptile keeping (as pets) it disturbs me that people will 'poke' the animal just because its a snake.. this is also the reason snakes get a bad name as they will defend themselves from being 'poked' as would any animal.. the differenece being they can kill with their DEFENCE... more people get biten by 'poking', killing or otherwise antagonising a snake.... If there is a snake regardless of if it is 'harmless' it would be best left alone unless you know what you are doing.. just call a snake catcher to come and remove it for you and most do it for free!!

jjj I am of the same opinion of AlexN in regards to your situation I would never try come between a mother and her childrens safety..

"rspca - for all creatures great and small.... so long as it has fur or feathers......................' :p

Liz if the little one will not leave send me a PM and I will see if i can find someone to come remove it for you....

Josh

I hate grasshoppers Alex so I'd pat the frog on the head , If I was chowing down on the back end of cow while its still very much alive I'd expect somone to poke me

I don't have a problem with nature doing its thing , but If I catch a snake trying to swallow the frog out my back patio thats been eating grasshoppers and mozzies for the last couple of years I will try and
help the little guy if it isn't to late.

How did your day end up panning out Liz, has the snake disappeared to wherever he came from?

Well, he seems to have gone into hiding again, but when I got home from work last night, there was another green frog sitting where the other was gobbled
As most of you say though, thats life and survival ... and .... we do a bit of killing ourselves.

Fingers crossed he's moved on then. I try to be unbiased and remember the laws of nature but .....i'm on the frogs side....... If there was a way I could intervene without pissing the snake off I probably would, I know I always think to myself when I relocate frogs that I hope I don't put them down somewhere to be dinner for something else. It's not just snakes though, birds like them too, especially Kookaburras!
