We get Death Adders up the back here, although I have never seen one. They are
and ambush snake and generally stick to the wooded areas around here.

They are less prone to getting out of harm's way, and are likely to attack if stepped on. I believe their thinking is, "you should have seen and recognised the distinctive tail, and gotten out of my way!" Not always possible at night, when both of us are going about our business. Anyway, what is an astronomer doing in a leafy location? If somebody, has a better knowledge of the Death Adder's habits, please feel free to correct me.

I think you nailed it! except snake cant hear, they only sense movement and
vibration.

woah!

hearing the name red belly black snake reminds me of when i was small boy visiting my grandfather on his dairy farm in the mountains near Mackay - just to show off to me if we saw a huge snake (which there were lots of!!) he would go out of his way to grab it quickly by the end of its tail and swing it around above his head and crack the snake like a whip in one movement - snapping their necks instantly - mostly it was red belly black snakes - well they ate his chickens and stuff - so fairs fair?
to a 5 y o it was quite a sight!!
PS I wouldnt recommend anyone try that move!! he was a life long bushy and an expert with a cattle whip
