I tried this years ago, it seems to have powerfull noise modeling algorithims for specific DSLR models, and learns a particular DSLRs noise profile over time. I didnt spend much time with it. Is it mainly for listed DSLRs, or usable (usefully, for the price and bother) for pics from all cams, including generic cooled Astro CCDs?.

Welcome to the Pixinsight users society

I think you will find that after a little while after you have got used to the interface, most things will come to you

And there is always the PI forum for any questions you have ( or you can ask houghy )

umm you could try the forum for pixinsight, they are a helpful mob, but i have found that Harry's dulcet tones are soothing watching the presentations again and again

Thanks for the advice guys. I will watch Harry's videos and see if I can make some sense of it all. Getting old and a bit thick, it can take a while to sink in.
Now all I need is some clear skies and some gear delivered to get everything working.

Please post more on your experiences as you go Doug. I almost forked out for PI recently, but my credit card is still glowing red hot. Told myself to behave and digest more of Astrophotoinsight mag I've started to subscribe to.

From the many excellent examples on their website, it appears to be incredibly powerful. I expect you'd have to invest many hours learning the basics and understanding options to get great images, but then be willing to tweak and experiment to pull out the truely exceptional pics.

Anyway - would be good to hear more from the PI converts.....

considering i stuffed up the star masking routine in the hdr section of the process its not too bad, but i look forward to learning how to do that and redoing the image - BTW that was my first go at it, so i can repro now
