So do you think twice before you stepping on the column of ants walking across your balcony that are on the way somewhere. Whats the difference: you were the weaker creature being shown no mercy by the stronger ones. There is no `fairness' in Nature. Get over it.

What an odd comment . Surely as a species aware of our own existance we can do a little better than that. Accepting violence as part of everyday life is pretty defeatist especially when we have the ability to make change.

This is a very inflamatory response. We are not ants and the correct analogy would be an ant squashing another weaker ant.
I hope humans are slightly more civilised than this.
I have been intimidated by others as part of my work (as a Dr) but these same thugs will then expect me to help them when they have been assaulted etc. This I do to the best of my ability even if it feels bad. It is part of being civilised.

Wow. Fellow humans deserve no more consideration then a column of ants? Me thinks someone might be due for some introspection.

This remark from an intelligent man makes me wonder if he actually read the thread

Group drunken violence does not betray strength just mob stupidity and cowardly behaviour

These people are not the stronger ones, they guise their inadequacies with alcohol induced bravardo, get them alone and they'd cower in a corner

Maybe we should punish them in the same manner or would that make us less civilised.

I may disagree with some you....
Alcohol, smoke, pubs, gov, taxes, NATURE??? what are you talking about guys? Why we have always to blame something or someone else to justify wrong behaviours like what described by Ian.
People like that is just a bunch of idiots without attributes, strong when they are in group against their victims, peace of #$% if taken one by one.

Something has to be done soon, I'm sick to death of hearing about glassings/bashings other alcohol related crimes etc. The whole binge drinking culture really is pathetic and quite frankly sad, if only these idiots would realise that

I was takin' the piss guys.
Hmm, I was hit a while back by a bunch of drunken aboriginals in Glebe who were trying to break into my van. Who do I blame ..society for the last 200 years, grog, the aboriginals, the state of youth today ? Maybe I should start a thread too ...

What happened to you is shameful Ian and I just wish I had been fishing near you (err?..and preferably in my prime of a few years ago ). I would have helped you stuff these little turds in your boot and waited with you for the police (maybe even enjoying a quiet non binge drunk beer?) - the longer they took the better

well they do say fishing is our most dangerous hobby/sport?

i think its statistically much more lethal/dangerous to be a young male, rather than a middle-aged bloke
