Show some respect for female readers here, please.

Thanks.
You're right, not all women are like that.

I couldn't agree more, they are neither hazardous nor problems, that's part of why it's funny.

I'm sure no one despises you. It's just a simple matter of opinions. Yours is that the original post was offensive to women, some of us don't think it was meant in that vain at all. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

Why is it that no female responder, since my comment, has placed their point of view here, eh?
No wonder many woman couldn't give a toss about astronomy!

I had posted a response a few days ago but deleted it as I thought the subject may become a point of arguement and decided not to play with this one. I think it is one of those subjects that is impossible to 'discuss' on an internet forum, it's so easy to be misinterpreted or have emphasis read into the wrong part of something you might write. - people sometimes just have to agree to disagree or agree to agree and accept that not everyone holds the same opinion or thought.
Look out, the trolls will be out soon.
(and I'm not refering to the mods either, they do a fine job)

Hi all.
In my past experience, women have responded favourably to these "funny articles", which was why I posted them.
Ever since some people started taking offense, I have spent the past few days mulling over the idea of self-moderating, by deleting the "funny articles". But the majority of reponses were positive, so I didn't take any action. But the recent replies from the ladies have made my decision so much easier.
I am not here to cause offense anyone, whether they are in the minority or the majority.
I've removed the "funny articles", but I will put them on photobucket, and if anyone wants to have a look, just PM me, and I will provide the links.

While I do have some very feminist views on the topic, I'm not jumping up and down over this. I realise that everyone has different views and not everyone's sense of humour is the same, I can "agree to disagree".
I just wanted to thank Enchilada for being a gentleman. They're a rare breed.
But you know what? I've met more real gentleman here on IIS than anywhere else. Which says a lot about the type of people who share our hobby.

Wow... mate, you have a nack for seeing the worst in any situation haven't you. C'mon... Look on the bright side. This is all harmless fun, all in good faith. No need to enflame things like this. I get all sort of cartoons or emails about "how dum" blokes are from female friends. It's all good. Come down.

Well yes, but they won't be coming out in this thread. Talk about 'give them enough rope'.

Well, that's you. I know men who'll say that women are hazardous materials (and actually mean it) because they've had bad experiences. Again, I know men who'll readily say that women=problems. I know this is not true of every woman and I also know that not every male thinks this either.
The core issue here is that this was obviously intended as a joke. Nothing more, nothing less. I think you're just over reacting and reading more into something than was originally intended by the OP. Rather silly really. Why pick an argument when it's not needed? If it's that offensive to you, don't read the thread. This era of political correctness has caused so many issues, it isn't funny. Society has gone crazy.

Maybe Cos no woman in here was offended nor felt disrespected?
Maybe cos the women in here send out and recieve the same pics and have a good laugh at it ?
God help us if the world has to be so politically correct that we cant laugh at each other anymore ...
I showed my wife the pics and she thought they was very funny , she didnt shrink away and feel disrespected nor she did feel they was sexist.
What is the world coming too ?

While the "General Chat" forum is the most off-topic forum there is at IceInSpace, it's mainly a catch-all for astronomy type chatter that doesn't belong in the other sub-forums.
Yes, it's also used for off-topic chatter too, where we get to know each other more, but I don't want it to start being used for things like Jokes which in general start getting spammy, and have more likelihood to start offending people.
While I completely agree the original topic wasn't meant to offend anyone, and is no different than what you see in the newspaper or get sent via email from work colleagues or family who think you like chain mail, it inevitably ends up spammy or ends up with discussions about who was and wasn't offended.
I typed "Jokes Forum" into google, and found this:
http://www.jokesforum.com/
I'd suggest that that forum is a much better place to go to post and read jokes if that's your thing, where noone can then get offended here. They even categorise the jokes for you!
So I'm locking this thread, and would "prefer" that jokes like this are posted on jokesforum.com - as I don't want the General Chat forum to end up a place where everything thinks they can create new threads with a funny joke they just heard or just got sent.
Thanks for your understanding.
