Further to this particular model, it didnt have the inrush current ability to start a 15 amp motor on my dome (Rotation), just kept clicking internally resetting itself. Weras the 12 Amp unit started the dome, and kept it going all day. Which is why i recommend the 12A unit.

I think you have just been lucky,as regulated power supplies are not recommended for use with electric motor use,due to possible damage caused by back emf and voltage transients.

Thats right, I went though a couple of these, they are the single biggest consumer rip off I have ever encountered. After some investigation, I found it overheated quickly with NO load. If anyone tells me they have one and it works fine, take off the lid and have a look at the burnt PCB under the big coil . Then watch smoke come out of it as you load it up. Maybe itll last weeks, maybe it wont.

The killer closer is, read the small print in the manual, its made for "testing purposes only" for no more than a few minuites at a time .

Even the guys at Jaycar laughed and said one they had in the shop powering some demo leds blew up within days.

After this little bit of fun, Im VERY wary of Power tech supplies. The linear ones seem OK, but dont load them more than half there rated current (or less, to be safe).

You get what you pay for. Some of the cheap switchmode supplies I see around I wouldnt trust to much.
Me I run an old linear regulated supply that I built about 25 years ago. Designed to deliver 4A at 13.8v regulated with low ripple.
Runs the EQ6 mount swinging a 10" newt without a problem.

For field use I have a regulated/smart charger/lead acid pack. I can use it as a supply if i have 240v or battery if no power is available.

For field use I have a dual battery in the Prado. As long as I can park within 10m the leads reach. Further away and I'd have to take it out. 130AH battery is just a tad heavy to move if I can avoid it.
