Heard a sonic boom once many years ago in Canberra while doing a star party for a school, the meteor passed close to a 4 day old moon and left a trail of smoke hanging in the air; followed by a loud sonic boom.

The kids were quite impressed.

A friend and I were fortunate to see the fireball over Perth around 2005.
As we stood out the front we witnessed it rage across the sky looking bigger than a city block heading north over the swan river shooting sparks and making the sound like those sparklers you buy for fireworks nights but hundred times louder.

I'll never forget that night, ... heres video
