The number of clear nights Melbourne gets in a century is countable on one hand.

Yes, Melbourne skies are worth swearing at...lol

Many times, it can change within an hour, from absolute clear to heavy cloud, then fast moving speckled cloud.
Many a time to setup, only to be frustrated by cloud that just appears outa nowhere.
I've learn't with Melbournes clouds, if it's in more than 4-5 hours, it's in for the night.
I usually hang off time around 10-11pm, if no change I give up (on a work week)

If you are really frustrated and want to do astronomy, there is always radio astronomy.

Yeah, it's called Winter and it's been happening for millions of years ... I understand your frustration but I hope that you are only joking with your frustration, but it does not worrying, frustrate, annoy or upset me in the slightest, because... I have a life. A life filled with other pursuits to potter around with, as well as family to be with. There is nothing like spending time with the family on a cold, cloudy, Winter's evening by the fire. I have never complained about the weather and never will. There is no reason to let the weather get you all wound up like that, seriously. There is so much more in life than astronomy. Some clear nights will eventually come, until then, go read a book or something.

p.s. I love the Moon, and enjoy it in any phase. Moonlit nights are so tranquil and calming. We should be thankful our planet even has a satellite to study, observe and admire. And it's only a few nights of the month that all you imagers are inconvenienced. Not much in the scheme of things, is it?

Last night around sunset Cloudville was clear, yipee! Got the gear out and setup, family went out to get pizza as I settled in and observed around Scorpius & the Corona. Got about 30minutes in. Family back, have dinner, kids talk me into playing a round of Cluedo, 2 hours later go outside...ahhh...noooo...completely clouded over
Oh well, good while it lasted

thanks for all the friendly, and sarcastic replies.

TBH, "annoyed" wasnt the word i originally had in there, but a mod changed it, and it completely changed the meaning of what i was trying to say.

Nevermind.

PS: I don't appreciate moderators removing a post (without notice) that had xxxx in it.

This is implied swearing is not swearing percei and to remove my reply to that which was meant as a joke is utter BS IMO.

Kids these days swear worse than we ever did so a little implied swearing doesn't make it unreadable but as adults we can moreso appreciate a persons frustration.

A little more thought in moderation IMO

Hi Duncan,

I know what you mean about "removing" a swear word that wasn't even there. I did the same thing once and was basically told to stop trying to bypass the profanity filter, however, there was no profanity listed just a bunch of cartoon like jumbled syntax such as $#$%*!.

Made me feel like some sort of criminal when all I was trying to do was imply frustration rather than actually swearing. There was no other letters showing, so it wasnt like I replaced an I with a 1 or anything.

Seemed a bit over the top then, too.

I would assume that if I actually wrote a naughty word like one starting with a nasty letter, then the inbuilt profanity filter would wipe it out anyway, so it seems like a tautology to remove symbols that aren't actually spelling anything under the pretense of "you swore there, don't do it again!"

Is it a case of: Implying a swear word is actually the same as swearing?

Oh well, you live and learn I suppose.

I do empathise on both your weather frustration as well as the censorship frustration.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris

TBH, it wasnt intended as a swear word, i just wanted to try to put a "feeling" of grumpy frustration into the title. I think the moderation on it was way over the top also, but i have sent a PM to Mike about it, as i think its better discussed in private ...

I did however find it a bit hypocritical that a quick search on the forums for words that are a bit unsavoury are there in previous posts. ie. various parts of the anatomy, but again, thats a matter for the boss to take up.

After all that, the skies cleared (of a sort) and i went out. TBH, i am getting really fed up with photography, if you dont have an observatory then setting up, and drift aligning every night etc, is a pain in the PLEASE INSERT WHATEVER NON OFFENSIVE WORD IS REQUIRED HERE , and i am seriously thinking of selling everything i have, and getting a 20" dob.

This isn't the thread to discuss moderation.

It's being discussed privately with the affected parties. I think this thread has reached its conclusion.
