I just got some afocal shots of the full moon! The sky cleared!

That's the before shot taken care of, now hoping for clear skies at 10pm for the during shot!

The clouds are moving fast and there's more heading our way from the south

starry night 5 simulation shows some slight shadows starting at 7:58 your time.
that slight shadow covering the moon at 9:35 your time.

main darkness starting at 9:12 your time and greatest at 10 your time.

is this diffraction shadow form earth or the atmosphere????

Had a quick look again then and my first impression was the about a quarter was looking a bit dimmer than usual. But after a few minutes staring I wasn't so sure...

C'mon Moon, hurry up and go into shadow..

waiting.. waiting.. waiting..

At only 6.8% we probably will barely even see it

I have already taken my before shot and it happens to be the best Moon shot I have ever taken. BONUS!!

Yes Stu, there is a wierd bit of a darkish area in one quarter.

Here it is:

How wrong was I! You can see the shadow easily on the south quarter of the moon.

Taking afocal pics is hard because of the shadow of the secondary. But you're on the right track there Ken, can see the darkening already!

This is awesome. Venus and Antares in the south east, Mars climbing higher in the west and an eclipsing moon in the middle. The star party should have been this week!

And while outside, I just found the november issue of AST in the letter box! Bonus!

You've got your west and east mixed up Stu, but I agree, it's a great night.. the clouds have miraculously parted for the event.

Nice.

Getting darker in that quarter. I've got a pic but I don't want to waste time downloading it and putting it in. I'll miss the action!!

Yes Mike, I saw the blobby 2ndry spot, I just moved the camera off it!

gee it's great being able to use my scope again. It is such a beautiful clear night!!!!

Woops! I just got back from the northern hemisphere, sorry...
Luckly I didn't get the left-hand / right-hand side of the road confused this morning.

Man it's gonna take me most of tomorrow to process all these darn images..

It's a pity the seeing is so terrible, Mars is getting higher and I'm thinking of staying up for it, but the air is very wobbly.
