Thanks Mick

Yeah. It's me. I've been getting some very handy advice as you've no-doubt seen?

I went on a bit of a shop today. Bought some turps, lithium grease spray, some felt pads etc

Have already taken the focuser off the scope. Am about to clean it down ... give it a new lube job... put some new teflon strip inside to eliminate a bit o' the jiggle LOL

I'll try everything before I decide "what the hell ... let's buy a crayford"!!!

I've actually enjoyed pulling it apart. It's pretty basic actually. Now just to get it set up right.

Mate, you were right. This is a terrific little website. I'll learn plenty here. I've not been able to get on the astronomyonline forum site the last few days. I think it's crashed?

How you been? You pulled that all-niter with mars yet? Where are the pics? Eh? Eh????

Matt

Yes Matt aOL is off line again I have a look over there sometimes, but I spend most of my time here. I have fitted a crayford to my 12"dob and I'm very happy with it's performance. It's good that you are having a go at improving your rack&p you will learn a lot about your scope. This weekend I've got a date with Mars fingers crossed.

Hi Matt,

Teflon tape is just plumbers tape which you can pick up at hardware stores for about $3.00 a roll. Its white, generally about 10mm wide and is used to thread around pipes or taps to make seals waterproof.

Its non sticky so if you wrap it around and it doesnt do the trick, its easy enough to remove and it won't leave any residule.

Norm.
