Yeah when I first heard about the flu, I looked up mortality statistics in Australia, and was quite suprise how many people die each year here in Australia.
http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/publich...infpneudth.asp
So really I think it's a bit too early for me to sell up and move to the country lol (isolate myself). But time will tell, I reckon the next few weeks we'll know if it's going to be a problem or not.
I read an interesting 'conspiracy', which basically says that it's a huge media beatup with the intent of laying blame on 'god' so to speak for the worsening economic downturn. ie 'look we tryed our best to stimulate spending etc, but now 'god' has brought this flu thing down on us, thus every one stays at home, spends less, creating more of an economic slowdown'. Economic collapse brings us one step closer to a 'New World Order' - one world government, one class of people etc etc etc.
Damn Youtube...

Would we feel this way if members of our own family were among those 'thinned'?
And 'sixty minutes' people?
It's a waste of a good hour.
IMHO

Probably not, but let's be realistic here - humans overcrowd this planet, have little or no respect for anything else, we're resource hogs and we usually screw things up beyond repair before we realise we're doing something wrong. We also continuously interfere with nature, which upsets the balance of things. We also an incredibly selfish species. I think, if you really sit down and think about it, as a whole, as a species, I've pretty much summed it up. Sure, there are good people out there, but I don't think there are enough to make up for the masses somehow.

Personally I think they got the word wrong. It's not Pandemic, it's Paranoia. (The world is out to get us) How many people die every day from well known flu virus, preventable disease, malnutrition or violence compared to this new strain ?
The media have beat this up out of all proportion, but that's what keeps them in a job I suppose, when they can't find something real for the newspapers or TV they make it up. In the words of the song "Good news never made a paper sell".

1500 people a year are diagnosed with MS fortunately it doe's not kill straight away but can lead to an early grave for a lot of people or a life of suffering yet it doe's not get the same media coverage has been around for nearly 100 years and still no cure. Maybe it should cause more deaths then someone might take more notice and find a cure.

The pharmaceutical industry is full of mischief. One of the first things I said with this "outbreak" was that it was man made, and was deliberately done as a test of how successful this man made virus would be.

Well lets see what happens, it may come into Australia yet, and if any of your loved ones contract it and die, i will be interested in your opinion on thinning, i don't mind people having their own opinions and sharing them in the right enviroment, but posting them on a forum such as this one isn't a great idea and thats my opinion, especially for those of us who have lost love ones in similar circumstances..

I was just thinking about the current swine flu issue, and the mention of Tamiflu and decided to do a bit more reading.
Crikey; this is straight from Tamiflu's website.
Quote
"
TAMIFLU is prescribed for treating adults and children 1 year and older with influenza (flu) whose symptoms started within the last day or two. TAMIFLU can also reduce the chance of getting the flu in patients 1 year and older. TAMIFLU is not a substitute for the annual flu vaccinations (you should still get the flu shot every year).
Before taking TAMIFLU, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you have kidney disease, heart disease, respiratory disease, or other serious health conditions. Also, let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications or if you have received nasally administered influenza virus vaccine during the past two weeks.
If you develop an allergic reaction or a severe rash, stop taking TAMIFLU and contact your healthcare professional immediately, as it may be very serious. People with the flu, particularly children and adolescents, may be at an increased risk of self injury and confusion shortly after taking TAMIFLU and should be closely monitored for signs of unusual behavior. A healthcare professional should be contacted immediately if the patient taking TAMIFLU shows any signs of unusual behavior.
The most common side effects are mild to moderate nausea and vomiting."

To get some perspective it pays to read up on the background of how these things can pan out.
In 1918 a very virulent, but otherwise mild strain of flu broke out and travelled around the globe. It later mutated and swept around the world again, this time taking some 50million plus lives with it (more than all that died in WWI).
There are already strains existing in the wild with resistance to current drugs like tamiflu and relenza. All it takes is for one person or animal to get infected with two strains simultaneously, and bingo a deadly mutated strain can emerge that may be unstoppable.
Now if that happened and we weren't taking the control measures being taken now, everybody would be screaming "Why didnt the government do something!".
If nothing terrible happens be grateful for the luxury of being able to scoff at the paranoia in safety.

Many will agree with you, but like usual, this lad has vastly different views on the matter. Humans already overpopulate this planet, we rape its resources constantly, usually without a 2nd though. We destroy other species, or their habitats, or both, usually without a 2nd thought. Viruses, cancers, diseases are all methods that nature uses to control a species population. For too many years, we've sought to circumvent these controls by inventing vaccines, operations etc. A time will come when nature mutates sufficiently to be beyond our sciences, and our populations will be culled quite dramatically. It is the nature of nature to do so, there is a thing called balance. The world is not currently "balanced". I'm seeing a gradual increase in people realising this, at least in private, but many will not publically say it because then they're branded as anti social, mean, or just trouble makers, or (most commonly), ridiculed. Mankind's society is not a particularly nice thing.

A pig walks into a bar and says's to the barman
"Three double scotches straight up no ice"
The barman says "Had a bad day"
"Nah", says the pig, "Just been to the Doctors and got some bad news"
"Whats so bad", says the barman
"I've got a dose of human flu and it could kill me"
