Wow what do some of you do for work? Cat naps in the arvo? I wish I could have a cat nap at work. I've always had sleep trouble and I'm always sleepy. I need 7-8 hours and I'm a very light sleeper. I wake up frequently in the night which makes me wake up tired every day.

I too can't go out observing longer than 22:00 -23:00 on week nights. I also wish I could get by on less so that I can observe at night and wake up for a pre work surf.

If I don't get my proper sleep I am completely useless at work and can only do jobs that don't require problem solving.

If I had my way I'd sleep 24/7.

If It were possible I would not sleep at all, just look at that wasted time in bed.

Half your life you are oblivious to the real world.

Agree! It seems a waste to me too. As I've been progressing through my 40's I find that I need less than I used to.

My biggest two problems are (1) getting to sleep in the first place -- it takes me at least a 1/2 hour and (2) actually waking up when the alarm goes off -- when I am asleep, I sleep very deeply and nothing short of a war will wake me up. It doesn't seem to matter if it's 5am or 10am, whether I've had 3 hrs or 13, I just never hear the alarm and almost always need someone else (thanks darling -- though I rarely say it at the time) to wake me up by putting the lights on and/or pulling the covers off.

If I get one good 8 hrs night, preferably with a morning sleep-in on one night a week, I can get by for the rest of the week comfortably on 4-5 hrs per night. This doesn't seem to make any real sense to me because science has concluded you can't catch-up on sleep -- but it seems to work for me.

Best,

Les D

I agree totally. I really resent the time sleep takes out of my life and if I could eliminate it completely I would.

I'm the odd one out when it comes to my/our chosen interest. I love sleep. As a single parent of two I find by the end of the day I am Tired. I stay awake as long as possible to observe but the mornings are difficult when it's time to get up. I can't sleep in. Last time I tried the house was covered in honey. Took days to clean. I sleep lightly but by early hours nothing wakes me. Quite often miss Astro' events because of this and the Cold. Hate the cold. As I said 'I'm the odd one out'. Love Astronomy; Hate missing sleep and abhore the cold. Yet I still indulge. Steven.
