Not having daylight savings time in QLD makes it difficult for businesses with premises in QLD to deal with the rest of the country. That costs money. Then there's the issue of customers...as an example, the last company I worked for offered support from 9-5 AEDST - for those in QLD, you missed out (you're on stupid fault I might add). I wasn't keeping the helpdesk open for another hour just to satisfy the many idiotic country bumpkins that inhabit this state.

If they had left the States on normal standard time there would have been no problem.
If the daylight effects your sleeping draw the curtains or get up and enjoy the morning
We Humans sleep to much anyway.
Daylight saving is artificial and is only used to suit certain part of the population.
The rest of nature seems to cope quite well without stuffing about with clocks

Same deal I suppose for people that complain about it being light later in the evening. Just draw the blinds.

I like daylight saving as it allows me to do stuff in the evening after work.
From an astro point of view it makes no difference as I can't start viewing before 9pm most nights due to commitments with my kids in the evenings.

You've had people moving to QLD because the cost of living was cheaper than in the Southern states. That's it. Oh, and it's warmer up here. I prefer the more temperate climes of NSW and Victoria - being hot and sweaty for 80% of the year isn't fun for this fat bugger lol.

I moved up here not because of the climate I can assure you, but simply because it was easier to relocate back with my parents than try and find ultra expensive accommodation in Sydney for just myself (I don't like share accommodation, which limits what's available, and pricing). Plus, as I was unemployed, I wanted to cut my costs as low as possible. Home is the cheapest place to live: fact.

If it wasn't for that, wild horses wouldn't have dragged this proud new South Welshman North of the border

The problem with DST is that it's applied in Summer, when it's not really needed. It would be far better (and useful) to apply DST to Winter imho.

As someone who suffers from sleep problems, DST makes no difference imho - if you're suffering from sleep problems then you should be doing certain things to limit the problem (darkening your room with thick 'n' heavy dark curtains, getting to bed at the same time on a regular basis, cutting all Caffeine and food for at least 3 hours before bedtime - except for Yoghurt, which is a natural relaxant). DST is the least of your worries imho. And I'm talking from experience.

The human body is very adaptible - millions of people have happily lived with DST for a good number of years now, without issue. It appears that only the country bumpkins seen to have a problem with it (the same DST problem resides in the central areas of the US). Staying behind the times due to stubborness is not a good way of living. I'm sure if QLD had a vote for DST in the urban areas (Brisbane/SEQ), which is where the *vast* amount of the state population is built up, the vote would be yes. I fail to see why the rest of the state can veto DST, especially since the voting numbers are smaller. This is where the current voting system, by electorate is a joke. It's possible for something to have more votes in total, but lose due to seats. That's *not* a majority, never was and never will be.

Anyways, that's enough for me, I've made my thoughts rather clear as to why I support DST and my thoughts on the debacle that is the current electorate system and why it does *not* work.

Unfortunately Trevor you can't make more daylight just by changing the clock ... so Winter is always going to be Winter with shorter days ... in Perth anyway. If you want more sunlight in the Winter you'll have to move to an Equatorial country.

As for the Daylight Saving issue being dead ... wait and see in another 10 - 12 years ... big business will not give up until it gets what it wants.

I feel sorry for those states that already have DST as they will never have a referendum to get rid of it ... you can count on that

p.s.

I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the Western Australian Referendum ... I hate DST and not just due to my interest in Astronomy/photography.

Daylight saving means that for at least part of the year I can get out of the office early enough to set up the scope before dark.
