the plan has changed already, HRH has done an inspection and decided there is insufficient room, so it looks like we'll be in a caravan as we did last time.
I'm happier with that anyway, somewhere to keep food, milk etc cold and far less stuff to cart all the way from Tas......,
Thanks in advance...
Not to worry Phil. Anyway, we are getting an 8' x 6' coldroom delivered, and kitting it out with shelves... should be enough room for all... Famous last words .
Actually it's very sturdy, all internal frame, a nightmare to put up if you haven't done it for 20 years, it's a bit like a reverse tardis, smaller on the inside than the outside...
Edit:
I've booked from Tuesday 18th till the end, HRH will be making an appearance later in the week, or maybe for the same period, depending on her whims....

Does anyone have in their archives, any day time photos of the side of the manager's house, as seen from the registration car-park, ie looking basically south from Rubie House? We need to construct some better light-proofing than we had last year, and I need a photo to ascertain how best to do this. If you can send them to me via a pm, or even post them here, it will probably save me a trip up there.
Would be cool, but alas, at this time without a car (or tent for that matter), I'll pass. Maybe next year, all things going well financially that is. That reminds me, where is my sleeping bag...mmm.

Many thanks in advance,
Hi Mike
Here are some crops from our old Minolta D’Image 5 Megapixel camera circa 2003.
Speaking of catching a some photons at the Astrofest, there are a few rule refinements for the Erwin van der Velden Astro-photo Memorial Trophey.
The photo competition has been divided into 2 categories: Through a telescope (400 mm or greater); Non-telescopic (less than 400 mm)
Images have to be captured at or since the last Queensland Astrofest.
All photos must be received by the Registrar by Monday 10 August 2009. It is recommended that you give your photos to your club representative to pass on to the Registrar.
As always, photos may be deep field, wide angle, planetary, lunar or special interest involving an astronomical object or theme.
These refinements are to ensure that all photos have the opportunity to attract maximum votes as many participants are not at camp for the whole period and may not vote for their best choice. If images are submitted prior to the camp, all images will be available to all attendees.
Not everyone is a member of the local clubs and societies running the camp, so it is recommended that the photos are send well protected by cardboard in the post, or if required, images may be printed by the organising committee for a small fee.
The images will be printed on Canon Photo Paper Pro on a Canon IP6700P. Every care will be made to print to the colour balance desired by the submitter, however results may vary from what is desired (It would be best to submit the printed image for your satisfaction.
Further info will be sent to all participants when we send our registration pack next month.
This may be an inconvenience for some, but we are trying to address feedback received.

Hi Mike,
I remembered that Anne-Louise took some shots of the camp when you guys went up in March last year. Here are a couple of crops. Hope they are useful.
Dennis, Thanks for your shots, but unfortunately they were taken in 2003, which was before the extensions to the east of the building, done early last year. I appreciate your reply.
Tony, Similarly, these would appear to have been taken before completion of the extension, as I seem to recall that the finished building is not quite as it seems from your photos. Just to the left of the canoes, there seems to be a screen door (glazed, as there is a reflection from the flash) but I don't recall that being there last Astrofest. All I can recall is a covered area between the old building and the new office, without any doors, but with a window in both buildings, each side of the covered way. My memory may be playing tricks however...........??
Does anyone else have any shots of this area? What I need is an elevation taken from the same position as Tony's first shot, taken last Astrofest, and if I'm lucky, without any vehicles or 20" Dobs in the way. Fingers crossed............
Looks like they closed in the room under the flat roof. I'm not sure about windows and doors in that section, but I've lightened up the shadows under there a bit and you might have a better idea. Doesn't help for measurements I suppose.
I have just got word from Sirius Optics that they will be donating an Orion Sirius EQ ‘GOTO’ Mount (equivalent of the Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro Mount) valued at $A2100.00 and Orion will donate one of their new 6” Ritchey-Chretien OTA’s valued at $A1489.00, being a total prize value of $3589.00.
