Don’t ask AP about insurance while in their hands. I was told oh yeah we can insure it but as soon as it leaves your hands we are not responsible???
Eh what am I paying insurance for then??

When my LX200 was delivered the truck driver was halfway down the ramp when the large box slipped off the trolley, smashed into the edge of the ramp then slammed onto my concrete drive way with a great thump. I stood there with my mouth open unable to speak. The silly bugger had not bothered to use the securing strap to hold the box in place and it all went wrong once he started down the ramp as he was in such a hurry. It's a good thing that meade do a fair job of boxing the scopes as there was no real damage except the collimation was well out of whack. This was a private freight company and the driver had to deliver a set amount of packages per day. These were all over the metro and surrounding rural areas. He often did not get back to the loading yard until after 6.30pm each day after a 6am start. The pressure put on these guys from employers is not fair and puts the customers freight at risk.

Ciao Mark

UPDATE :

Ok, so this was ordered last Wednesday for next day delivery, and its still not here, i called up the post office sorting office, who seemed to use suspicious overtones, that suggests to me that they think i am telling porkies.

and all this, still no item, and more importantly ... no apology.

apparently they are lodging an investigation ....

So its been tracked to their depot. They obviously either still have it or they have your signature recorded. How can they accuse you of porkies?

who mentioned a depot? or my signature for that matter?

they dont have it, or at least they might, they have NO idea on where it is, and as for accusing me of telling porkies, they are asking things like

"so you gave him the right address to send it to? you sure? .... ok then, only if your sure"

Seems I misunderstood this bit ...

"where is it now? >seeth<"

"At the delivery depot in Mitchell"

"Thats around the corner from where i live! can i go collect it?"
So my assumption was they acknowledge having the package, so they cant discharge responsibility for it unless they have a recipients signature recorded to prove its been delivered.

Was it insured? I would be looking to knock a few heads together myself.

I ordered some stuff from Bintel at 3:45pm yesterday via Aust post parcel mail and picked it up at 11:00 this morning, all was safe and sound.

A big thanks to Bintel, a great bunch of people.

Hi Duncan, sorry to hear about your eyepiece. I'd be checking with the supplier to see if they can replace it, and then I'd be onto Consumer Affairs or the Ombudsman about AP. It can't hurt to put a complaint in.

Cheers

Duncan,
What about the incorrect postcode problem?
Wasn't that the reason for the delay in delivery?
Was that a supplier mistake or AP's?
Peter

Make a great noise about the damaged eyepiece with AP. Hound them and threaten with everything from consumer affairs to the UN. The supplier is not liable unless the packaging was poor. The AP disclaimers are BS, they are bound to deliver in good condition, which is what has been paid for. Make a noise, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Best of Luck
Bill

Maybe I'm a bit cynical RE Aus Post but.... I reckon the reason for non delivery was the damage was obvious. Tried to "lose" it methinks.
Since it got pretty near to the delivery point, wrong postcode aside, makes me suspicious.
