LOL! Give the bloke a medal for trying!

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, I suspect that you will be told right-royally where to go Trevor. They won't muck around with you.

What are you referring to in that web page Trev? It supports what we've been saying... I'm not sure they'll care where you're from, but give 'em an earful anyway. If they knew it was you who coined the name, then they could easily have asked or at least informed you first.

By contrast, patents and trademarks are not automatic. They must be registered, after surviving a rigorous process to ensure there does not already exist a patent or trademark for that thing.

Regrettably as Trevor did not obtain a trademark for the term "Mylotian" he has no ownership over that word, and has no power to prevent others from using it. He continues to have rights over the use of the story, though, so that if the term "Mylotian" was being used by another party in the context of a story which bore an unmistakable resemblance to Trevor's story, some action may be available.

Now, who do I send my invoice to?
the Mylotians

from the MyLot Q&A on the myLot web page:

-----start Fair Use extract---
How do I calculate my earnings?
  • Discussion activity earnings are calculated based on a proprietary model that rewards quality responses, relevant discussions and images.
Why do my earnings fluctuate?
  • From time to time it is necessary for myLot to recalculate earnings for the month to curb users trying to game the system. Our proprietary earnings algorithm periodically recalculates all estimated daily earnings for the previous month to take into account posts that have been deleted in the abuse and moderation processes.
---end Fair Use ----

hah! "proprietary system", indeed. i suspect the "system" looks at the owner's bank account and then calculates the payments that should be made to contributers...

every time i think of mylotians now I think of the Heaven's gate cult that committed suicide in 1997.

so, Terry, what was your story about?
Where can we read it?

cheers,
DJDD

Jen

I have 5 stories posted on that site (go back to home page then link to previously posted stories) and about a dozen more short stories in my files a 100 page incomplete space saga all written some time ago. Some of the stories couldn't be posted to that site because of the content. Haven't written in some time though

ps: look at my post under Lost in Space

Cheers
