Agreed, the 350D is a fairly low cost camera and it yields great images. For the time being my imaging rig will be a EQ6, modded 350D and SW ED80 + WO field flattener.

I disagree. Would not larger pixel sites be better? For the same price as a 40D, you could get a 1st gen Canon EOS 1Ds, goes up to ISO 1250, 12mp, FF sensor. Noise is pretty good up to and including ISO 800. Remember, it's a 6 or 7 year old camera now.

These newer 1.6x crop cameras have tiny pixels, lots of noise etc.

Even an original 1D (1.3x crop) has bigger and better pixels imho.

In respect to the mount - bigger the better. I'd recommend the EQ6PRO over the EQ5 to be honest - larger, more solid etc.

Canon 1000D

Hey all,

Now, I've looked and looked and looked. I originally thought of the 450 D and had a pretty good knowledge. After reading Mike's post, I figured the 350D would be better to suit my needs and also allow for other less fancy, but still costly items to my ever changing shopping list.

I'm now looking at the 1000D twin lens package which I can get for less than $850 aus. The only thing that I noted different was that there is no automatic noise reduction, and other more cosmetic type changes.

Any comments on this a starting point!

Darren

Dob Dslr

Further to my last.

I've read the posts on various topics concerning achieving focus on a 8 inch dob with a dslr.

From most of the info I've managed to get hold of, refer to cutting the tube and moving the mirror up towards the secondary. A scary thought for a newbie like me.

Then the other day, somebody vastly more experienced that I, remarked why don't you just get longer primary bolts and springs made up and move the mirror that way.

I wasn't in a position to question the speaker, but had my mind working overtime for the next couple of days.

Any thoughts?

Darren
