I find that when spending all day taking photographs, having one eye closed so I can focus and compose through the viewfinder, I end up with a nasty headache. I'm not sure if this is because I'm constantly looking through one eye or if it's because I'm squinting and the muscles constantly contracting and relaxing causes the headache?

I'd be interested to read if other people suffer headaches from having one eye closed.

Regards,
Humayun

Don't forget the puffy pirate shirt, Steve (Only Sienfeld fans really appreciate the puffy shirt)

Whilst I respect and understand the need for some amateur astronomer to go to great lengths to preserve their night vision, and I can clearly see the benefits of eye patches, sunnies during the day, to me, this is getting a fanatical, and is starting to steer away from just, enjoying life during the day and the hobby at night. But, each to his own.

sounds quite interesting. How do you keep polar alignment on a quarterdeck?

Yes indeed, I would be fascinated to meet an amateur who actually wore an eyepatch over their observing eye the day before an observing session!! Haven't yet, but I've heard they exist!

I solely use mine over my non-observing eye (left) while observing, so that I can keep it open and not squint. I've found that, even in the darkest conditions I've been in, my left eye sees enough of the scope beside the focuser to be distracting.

Erick, I can understand the use of the eyepatch to avoid squinting, I know after a while I get aching jaw/face muscles from consistently squinting.
