Some colour data now added.

In adding the colour, I was reminded why I avoid imaging the northern skies from my location.

Gradients drove me spare!

and unfortunately caused the loss of some nice faint background structures.

Anyway here is the result thus far The Rosette in colour

Grats on the A380 too. Hey, I can land a 747 9 out of 10 times in MS Flight Sim - think Qantas would take me?

Cheers, Marcus

Thanks . Still needs a few few tweaks, but not too shabby methinks.

Beautiful image. Nice to see the AP getting a work out. Hope the RCOS doesn't get jealous.

The centre area of the Rosette in some images often shows a bit of blue in some of the filaments. Worth checking out?

I use the Baader 50mm square filters as well as Astronomiks. I like them and as you say they handle the reflections very well
(as do the Astronomiks). I find they are very responsive in the reds but I have had some trouble with some weird colour combines with them
once in a while. To be fair though it is possible that they was some high cloud in those subs which can throw the scene off.
Haven't noticed a problem lately. The Astronomiks are only 1mm thick and that presents a problem as Gerd Neuman has only just offered
spacers for them -of course for "only" $100!!

How do you do your colour combine? I have been CCDstack and perhaps it doesn't respond as well as some other approach like perhaps using
Photoshop and assigning colours to channels?

Thanks Greg....there are hints of blue but they don't seem all that obvious in my data....though a composite image to get more signal using the RC does does come to mind

I use MaxIm for most of the grunt work. Calibration, alignment, stacking and basic colour stack. I layer H-alpha in Photoshop and do the usual colour tweaks there to get a black sky and no green stars

No need to worry, I don't fly that machine anymore.

BTW eagle eyed list observers will have probably noticed various versions
of the image keep appearing at the same URL....sort of unannounced Sidonio-like repros ... anyway I think I'm now done with this one.

...It's an uncontrolable fetish I'm affraid

Nice Sidonio like repro work on the Rose Peter, although you don't post large versions of your images (how come BTW?) lots of detail would clearly be seen in larger versions I am sure and it looks very APO'ish

Oh and BTW My 16yr old son did his first hour in a 737-800 sim at the Gold Coast last week and LOVED it. He was very excited and now more than ever wants to fly metal.

I like this version. The sharpened dust areas look fabulous. Gotta love those AP scopes.

Greg.

Better keep the young fella away from the heavy metal....Airbus charge Euro 90,000 for an A380 endorsement...I kid you not...

As for very large files....maybe...sometime after July...

Oh com'on , ya kidding right..? So that means we all only get to see lower res images from you until after the almighty David Malin Awards then, ..? . I can understand perhaps you might choose not to release your very best effort/s "at all" but how will only seeing your released images in the meantime in low res make one iota of difference? Surely yo're not scared that someone will download your work, rotate, mask and coregister or perhaps even enhance their own work with it do you? ...hmmm? maybe you do...?

Oh well se la vi

Mike

I'd suggest you put that to Gendler, Block, GaBany, Croman et. al. They've all have their data ripped off. In short: sadly it happens.

Sensational result Peter. Did you rework the original Ha data or use the same you posted previously? I would imagine you'd struggle to keep the colour saturation on the original. Well done.

Thanks Jase. Just a data rework to get the levels and luminance blend under control.

Hi Peter,
This is a stunning image indeed, congratulations. Would you mind if I download it and use it as my desktop background. I understand it is copyright and I will acknowledge you as the author should anyone ask - anyways I only work in 25 second monochrome images for my Supernova search so no chance of me repocessing it etc, etc. It is just inspiring. Thanks for sharing it.
