Colour added:
After a struggle dodging clouds just before the New Year, I finished gathering the RG & B (105 mins each) for a total of 10.25 hours of data. Still only some minor and selective sharpening on the head and to highlight the clouds. Noise reduction using Neat Image but I've tried to avoid the temptation of removing ALL the noise. Not sure I've achieved the perfect balance but it looks OK to me - opinions welcome.
My wife tells me I'm obsessing over this image - and she'd be right! Mixing in Ha while trying not to lose definition in the streamers & colour in the stars was hard and took a number of long processing sessions (incl some darkened room sessions). I also had a bit of a tussle with a few blue-green flares from Alnitak but I think I've managed to get rid of them pretty well.

Simply stunning Marcus - detail, colours... It's both dramatic and delicate. Lost for more words.

Very nice Marcus. If you feel you need something better or bigger than the measly 150 give me a call and I'll take it off your hands.

Thanks a lot Mike! Yeah, I've wanted to image that horse for the better part of a lifetime too - it's a favourite of mine. I remember reading old astronomy books as a kid and there would invariably be an image of the horsey to marvel over. A good image was defininitely the holy grail of TriX imagers decades ago too, so I guess I feel rather accomplished now (even though it's MUCH easier now than it was back then!)

Thanks Doug! I tell you what - with all the clouds lately, I've been tempted to sell it ..... not! Can't help having occassional bouts of aperture fever though .

Well done Marcus. You've handled the RGB blend very well. Wasn't expecting such a glamorous result (how dare I state such a thing), but you've really brought this together. Good job.

A super final image.
How did you get F11.7 out of your TOA? An extender Q?
That is the same image scale as an RCOS 12.5 inch with an STL11.
Greg.

Thanks again Greg. I use the TOA 1.6 extender on top of the 67 flattener.

Hi Marcus,
Well it works very well using your TOA extender. I am surprised it doesn't vignette badly. Is it different to the Q1.6 extender which is a fairly narrow piece of optics?
Perhaps I could use one on the BRC to get a bit more focal length when needed.
Greg.

It does vignette - but flats take care of it. Also, even with the 67 flattener, the field is not perfectly flat. So, I usually crop and, on rare occassions, I'll even doctor the effect out (rather painstakingly I might add) if I want close to a full frame image.
Cheers, Marcus
