It's not easy to take a photo of your own left arm and neither of my dogs are much good at photography either. In fact, they only really have four skills - eating, sleeping, chasing rabbits and getting patted.
Reckon we should hassle Ric for a couple of photos too.
Dunno about Eric's, though

Ok Phil & Jen here's my back tatt. It's before the Milky way went in along with the start of the colour but you'll get the idea.

Cheers

Thanks Phil, probably about another 12 months to completion.

A 2 hour session is usually enough on a back job and then allow 3 to 4 weeks to settle in and heal.

Cheers

I should have had the cosmos tatooed on my stomach when I was 20. That way I could demonstrate the expanding universe.

Good one

My gut could've expressed the expand/collapse theory over the last 18 months - but the collapsing isn't nearly as easy as the expanding - hence the prevalence of the currently accepted model of neverending expansion i think

I was thinking of a portrait of Carl Sagan.

After the recent pricing debacle on CGEM, I am getting my Celestron tatt laser-ed off!

No tatts for me, but constantly got astronomy on the mind, like if I am out somewhere I will often check out the night sky and if it's a clear night I would be thinking.... I should be at home imaging, especially as clear nights have not been coming around here that often lately.

Cheers Daniel.

Thanks Jen

My advice for anyone thinking about a tatt is to

1. Make sure you really want it and it's not a spur of the moment thing, they don't wash off in the shower. A good idea is to forget about them for a few months and then if you still want one then your usually ready.

2. Check out you local tattoo shop and make sure they are clean and have single use needles etc

3. Check out the tattoist's work, some are artists but others can't even draw stick figures. Even be prepared to travel.

4. Think outside the square with a tatt, the pictures on the shop wall are standards which means everyone else probably has the same. Search the web for pictures it's a great resource. All of my tatts are original ideas in conjunction with my tattoist.

5. Take care of it, avoid salt or chlorinated water for a few months. Use vitamin E cream and dont cover it, avoid sunburn and the big one is as it heals it will flake, dont pick them off as you will be pulling out the colour as well and it will end up blotchy. A tattoo can take up to 8 months to fully settle in.

Cheers

Is it a bad sign when you start wondering how NGC 4755 would look as one's first (and only?) Tatt?

Funny how this thread has popped up again.

I've just about decided on the astro tatt I want.
An armband of tiny constellations, Scorpius, Leo, Crux, Orion, amid swirls with more stars dripping down off it. Not much colour, just a dab of red in the heart of Antares and Beteljuice.
It will all be quite fine and delicate.

I love astronomy but blowing 200 bucks just to endure blinding pain for 2 hours ain't gonna happen! That 200 bucks will be much happier inside the till at Dan Murphy's or even Bintel
