And folk wonder why I am a hermit.
There is nothing to compare with creating the environment you prefer and I like peace and quiet these days.
Before I started racing (mx) I was a hoon and had various fast cars but being able to get rid of the urge on the track I became extremly sedate and so I feel if the Government allows fast cars and hot up gear to be sold they must police the consequence with greater determination than the hipocritical hand wringing displayed when a tradey occurs which is clearly attributed to street racing....cause that is the only time the problem is addressed and only then in a vote seeking effort.
Legislation can change things...otherwise why get into the carbon tax thing.

What these hoons do on the road is unacceptable, but whenever I see a story on the news that someone has crashed their car and it shouldn't happen, etc, etc, there is no mention of any outlets for these people's enthusiasm, in a safe and controlled manner.
I have been a member of car clubs and motor racing clubs for the past 7 years, and these clubs cater for car enthusiasts, whether you want to go on a cruise with heaps of other cars, or race around a track, or do a show and shine and show off your nicely prepared car etc. Some places like Calder Park in Vic offer legal off street drags on a Friday night, and I'm sure other venues around the place offer drag nights. Many cars are being marketed on their performance levels, so if you go out and buy one of these 500 hp things, you may as well see what she can do, in a safe and controlled manner.

Cheers

I'm with you 100% on this. I drive high-powered sports cars on the tracks, and I can say that on public roads I drive with more brain than those driving pulsars, old commodores, excels, etc. These hoons are just the minority, and many of them are not even real car enthusiasts, they're mostly P-platers doing stupid things with ANY car they can get their hands on.

IIRC, the term "zero tolerance" means that the law enforcement member is not able to exercise any discretion when an offence is detected.. an offender has to be charged with any and all of the relevant offences. So there would be no 'turning a blind eye',or only giving a warning, or giving one 'on the spot fine' instead of doing the whole brief of evidence for court thing..
It is not so much about harsher penalties or unyielding punishments.

Give them a warning first off, then if they offend again, take their cars off them.
Then until they are 25, the only car they are allowed to drive is a metallic pink 3 cylinder Suzuki Hatch Back.

Previous hoon (1974 variety)

I speak from several angles: (1) having been a "semi-hoon" in my teen year (early '70s), (2) being a person these days who listens to and gets woken up by the noise of these guys and (3) being a health care worker who worked in the Emergency Department of large hospitals for about 16 years (putting these guys and other victims back together).

I agree, get rid of their cars they will get another and drive unlicenced, as you have all said they don't respect authority anyway.

Whats the solution: build them a racetrack away from residential areas, and make them sign a waiver to exonerate anyone from having to be liable for their behaviour and let them do whatever ???

The only way i really leant my lesson was to be in a near collision where i believe some "superior being or something" saved the day: scared the living sh.. out of me and made me face realty very quickly, luckily no person or car was injured as a result of my stupidity.

Make them sit through a movie of a postmortem examination of a young person who has died in a car accident, and i mean make them sit through it in it's entirity, for heaven sake the forensic pathologist, police and mortuary assistants have to be there throughout the examination and they played no part in the person's death.

Make illegal for anyone under the age of 25 to be sold cars capable of hooning , and for these young people to be behind the wheel of such wheels.

Zero tolerance.

I was hoon - loved speed and did some stupid things with mates (its almost always with mates) I'd tell myself 'Yep I know the risks but she'll be right - crap like that.
Then, 2 years ago now, a best friend was a passenger in a car (4 people including the driver) They were on their way to the meat works outside Toowoomba along a backroad when they crashed.
Police said they were travelling around 180, passed a car on a rise, another car came over the hill towards them. They lost control, hit a culvert, became airbourne, snapped a telephone pole (and the car) in half.
The other three died instantly and my mate was in a coma for three days before he died. He had a 2yr old daughter, and his current girlfriend at the time was due with his 2nd daughter in 6 weeks time.
At least the other cars occupants were not hurt.
A lot of young fellas know the risks, but they dont understand them. Needless to say - I am cured of this particular brand of stupidity. But why did it have to take something like that to get through to me?

Zero tolerance - if young blokes are too stupid to do it themselves - it has to be done for them.

[quote=Jen;389963]I totally agree that the hoon laws should be a lot tougher
.....dunno they are fairly tough now, more Police to inforce the law might be a good idea, there isnt enough time in their day at the moment to do everything. Its also impossable to write legislation to prevent idiots.
i love fast cars and the sound of a purring engine in a drive through bottleshop (wishing i still had my 253 torana and my 350 chev monaro)

yep thats all good! ..... If a car really is that noisey file a complaint with the RTA (or whatever wherever you are) they even have a form for you to do it on...........................instead of crushing the cars can I have a couple of them?

I get really worried when approaching crests on country roads in daylight hours , you never know if some moron is on the wrong side of the road or overtaking over the double yellows coming the other way .... I go as far to the left as I can just in case .... I feel happier at night , at least you can see the beams of their lights before you see the car.

I am sick of these divisive threads, 'Hoons' what a lovely inclusive christmassy title for a thread.

Ian, the previous post of yours must be about the 10th re-hash of you saying exactly the same thing.

I think it's about time the moderators locked this thread. It doesn't belong on a site like this and serves absolutely no purpose except for groups of people to slang of at other people..
