attention span for the three lovely ladies in my life is very short. as long as i can show them something quickly, it all ok. except for the two year, who thinks it is funny to put her fingers on the very very expensive series 500's . asimov will be happy, cos he has a really cool way to clean these series 500

Carefully, from a distance of approximately 30 feet, take reasonable aim, turn your back & toss them into a container of Liquid Nitrogen? L.

My hubby has the attention span of a gnat when it comes to astronomy. To him, a grouping of observers is called a Geekfest. The kids ( 7+8yrs) are a bit better, and enjoy looking at the sun, moon, planets. I'm encouraging them to sketch what they see.
But financially, I have to fund this hobby myself, by selling off one of my other hobbies. Anyone want to buy a horse?
Husband and I don't mind allowing each other childfree time to pursue our individual interests. Eg. He'll look after the kids so I can go to a geekfest for a weekend, and I'll do the same if he wants to go to Brissie for a weekend of footy.
Neither of us would dream of stopping each other from enjoying their interests.

The missus has no real interest in my obsession, She's looked through my scopes about 4-5 times. When I buy a new EP she can get a bit 'cranky'.....What she REALLY objects to is me spending on average 10-15 hrs a day in this forum.

I look at at this way. Once you have the equipment needed, ongoing costs are virtually zero which can be said of very few other hobbies or persuits.
This of course is negated if you become a collector of scopes

Who has friends who own cars sitting idle, or a boat for that matter ?
Such hobbies or passions are huge money sinks.
As I dont have any other expensive hobbies I have no trouble justifying to myself spending on this hobby if I see value in what I buy.

P.S. JJnettie from what I've heard owning horses ranks amongst the most expensive of interests. Trading a horse (and its ongoings) for astro gear could finance some top gear
