Hi Steve
I decided to go right back to the beginning with collimating my scope. Erick's tip about the contact paper around the sight-tube to reduce the sloppiness works well - thanks Erick .
I think I was also getting a bit confused with what's supposed to be lined up due to all those reflections you get with the cheshire but I finally nutted it out and now I'm pretty happy with my scope. Still some coma at the edges but that's to be expected with a reflector - you've just got to minimise it.
I don't think a low profile focuser will work for me. I've discovered that my scope's probably designed for photograhic work. Both the 2" and the 1 1/4":2" ep holders have built in 35mm extensions to push the actual focus point further out - that's probably why I can't see all the primary in the secondary without trying to stick my head inside the drawtube. So if I replace the crayford for better quality I'll probably still have to buy a 35mm 2" extender but they're fairly cheap anyway. Don't give up on the collimation.
Good luck
Allan

If that's the problem you'll get it right eventually.
Good luck
