I understand your point of view, Jeanette. Mind you, I recently revisited Henry Esmond (Thackery?) as it was one of my texts so many years ago. It is still as awful as it was in those long gone days.
I'd best disconnect my keyboard now as this thread has moved significantly from its original intent.
