My favourite form of self abuse is picking up a pack of 35mm astrophotography prints from the professional developers. Give you some of my favourite examples
*Case No 1/ (all time fav) Stewart picks up photos - (they always look at them before giving them to you) owner of store says "OOOOOOOOOOOOHHH little green men" while gesturing with arms, and making a humorous face.
*Case No.2/ to Barry who had taken small comet shots in " oh here's the little blue dot man"
*Case No.3/ to me on picking up some widefield shots "i was trying to clean all the dust off, but then I realised it was stars" he thought that was hilarious hehe
Then I have lost count of the many looks/expressions on these workers/owners faces we have had to endure for 5 years. Sometimes it was like we were picking up some kind of weird/sick **** photos!!!? i think we would of got a better response LOL
But then one time i had one lady assistant wax lyrical about a simple star trail shot like it was a hubble shot - go figure

I had one of those . . . Duh! . . moments last night.
I wanted to take shots of the Moonrise (pics in other thread) and I had the scope in the front yard for the first time, and sharing the view with next door neighbour (he wanted to freeze too!).
Phil from down the road was walking past with his dogs and he walked over and said 'what's that Ken?'.
My neighbour (the Proffessor, remember him?) answered for me and said 'It's a telescope Phil'.
Phil: What's the big barrel thing under it for?
Me: Where?
Phil: (pointing to OTA) There!
Me: That's the telescope.
Phil: Oh! I thought that was (pointing to the finderscope). Wondered why you had it on a barrel.
He is not to know. But when offered a look through the scope he declined and said 'no thanks, gotta go. And he slowly strolled off with his dogs. What does it take with some people.

Yeah, but sheeesh! The scope was 2 feet from him, the EP trained on the moon. He only had to take about 2 steps, bend over and have about a 6 seconds look!!
I guess some people just aren't interested

Cool! Can you knit me a 12' Dob cover to keep my scope warm & dry outside.
I'm a self taught needlepoint person. I used to enjoy it but now my eyes aren't up to it.

Actually, I am working on a secret invention along those lines. But I am not letting the cat out of the bag yet until I know it works properly! I wasn't going to say anything, just announce it when it was finished and tested.
No, you can't have my 'very expensive' Kmart EP's. I made a special reducer for them. Plus your signature says you have too many EP's.

Getting a tad off topic aren't we? LOL
Those are some great stories about un-interested people.
I reckon there are 3 kinds,
Left brain users, right brain users and bottom brain users....LOL
Just ignore the bottoms.....

There is a god....and he was in a bad mood tonight..
Went to work tonight...
About an hour after starting work word got around someone had been marched out the door by the boss and the security guys for stealing something....
It was the ROCK APE who gave me a hard time last week about Jupiter....!!
I guess what goes around comes around ..
Cheers

Up here in Queensland they would have believed you! Of course these are the same people that believe that daylight savings fades your curtains and summer days are longer than winter days because everything expands in the heat. But alas, we hold open nights at the observatory and slowly educate them that our sun is in fact a star and the milky way isn't a high altitude cloud, (well actually, it is but that's another story.) Let me guess, that blokes name was Bubba, he wore a white singlet, had a hat made from a hanky with knots in each corner and can bite open a stubby using only his front teeth? I think I used to work with him when I lived down there.
