Yeah - I noticed it the other morning driving back from Magellan. I'd never seen the little artificial lake adjacent to the sandpit. Nice soft landings... but take a towel!

"velocità dell'automobile"- Omaroo

i like the way the body of the car looks still but the wheels are in motion.

what camera settings did you use for the shot?

cheers,
DJDD

Hi DJDD, and thanks

Details:

Nikon D40
Nikkor 55mm@f/8
1/250th sec
ISO-200

I took nearly 900 shots that day - and a good job I did. Panning with these guys at the exit of pit lane was devils work. Getting just a handful of decent pictures took all day.

Good result though - and everything of interest in the frame falls nicely on a pythagorean third, giving it good balance I think.

Cheers
Chris

Some great entries so far guys!

I've just got back from Canada this morning and I've done one run through the 1760 photos taken... short listed 4 and then picked this one. It's not perfect, but then if I had a perfect shot I'd put it in and the decision wouldn't have been so hard! Off to Grafton the day after tomorrow so not much time for me to be playing around with photos for this month. Just the best I can do in the time available!

Just for those who aren't familiar with Skookumchuck - the water can drop up to 2 metres in a couple of hundred metres through the narrows reaching up to about 30 m/s. The guys wear dry suits (the water is very cold!) and perform stunts like flips, and turns and somersaults on the waves in these short aquabatic kayaks. They reverse into the top stopper from upstream usually, though a few worked the eddies back up and dropped in from the side. Absolutely great to watch! No doubt it it's fun to do - at least it looks like it to me!

Al.

Great shot,Al. Certainly evokes "motion", even if after this dunking the only motion left to do is shivering

Thanks Dennis. As cold as the water is, I suspect these dudes don't get that cold... To watch it, it is an extremely active sport. If I lived near somewhere where I could do it, I'd love to have a go at it! It's got to be a fun way to keep fit.

Nice shot DJDD, that should do well in the counting, and a nice lens too. I have one for the EOS, and it gives great results, as you have demonstrated.

i must assume you meant "stool" as in chair and are making a play on the topic (i.e. sitting still as negative motion) rather than the other type...

I rather think that David was referring to an... uhmm... "pooh".... i.e. a "motion"
