I really like your effort Dave... I would like to know how long the exposure was but suggest that the longer the exposure the more "things" move around which gives an impression that the focus is wanting..however looking at your diffraction spikes the focus seems spot on... small movements in the mount or the sky are more likely the cause I venture.

In any event a very good image in my view I would be very happy with a result as fine as you have produced.

I had another look at the one from the other day when in a darkened room and was able to see the nebulosity in that one which was not there for me earlier in the "light" of day... is this image a re work of that I can not remember the composition so wonder if they are the same.

Oh they are "all" so dear....

Hmmmm?......very difficult....? Narrowed it down to three (or 4)

Always been partial to this image due to the high resolution and detail with just 6" of aperture and a mere 1140mm FL, the seeing was good that night (I wasn't in Newcastle then )

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...79166/original

This for its "Pow" factor (most viewed image at my web site with nearly 4000 hits since July last year):

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...15236/original

This because when I did it from my control room without touching the scope I felt like I had my very own Hubble Space Telescope:

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...34163/original

And lastly this is rather dear to my heart because it was my very first CCD image and taken after a more than 13 year abscence from astrophotography (so much had changed in astrophotography!!!):

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...00338/original

....Oh and this is a favourite too

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...60449061/large

Gets a lot of hits that image (nearly 1400 since May last year)

Mike

Yes...one of those images you can stare at for hours and find something new in it and never get bored (bit like a where's Wally).

PS make sure you look at the "original" size (select below image credits) - great for a pan around!!!

My favorite shot was taken purely by accident. It was suppose to be Lagoon nebula, late in the night using the scopes goto. I managed to cature both the Trifid and Lagoon in the same shot and in focus too.

Hmmmm . . . allowed to post more than 1 image.

OK, how are these? Some of my favourites. All with the Modified Toucam and ED80 (except Jupiter - 12" dob and Toucam)

P.S. All these images were taken before I had Autoguiding!

Alchemy..... Love your shot of Jupiter.. If you look directly at it it almost appears to move. Interesting to say the least. Can't wait to see what you get in colour.
