I suppose this would have to be one of the better ones - certainly the longest exposure I have ever taken - granted the focus could have been better
I really like your effort Dave... I would like to know how long the exposure was but suggest that the longer the exposure the more "things" move around which gives an impression that the focus is wanting..however looking at your diffraction spikes the focus seems spot on... small movements in the mount or the sky are more likely the cause I venture.
In any event a very good image in my view I would be very happy with a result as fine as you have produced.
I had another look at the one from the other day when in a darkened room and was able to see the nebulosity in that one which was not there for me earlier in the "light" of day... is this image a re work of that I can not remember the composition so wonder if they are the same.
Hmmmm?......very difficult....? Narrowed it down to three (or 4)
Always been partial to this image due to the high resolution and detail with just 6" of aperture and a mere 1140mm FL, the seeing was good that night (I wasn't in Newcastle then )
And lastly this is rather dear to my heart because it was my very first CCD image and taken after a more than 13 year abscence from astrophotography (so much had changed in astrophotography!!!):
probably not my best ever taken, but one that i was pleased with ,i went from a to u cam to a dmk and the detail was so much better, still dont have the color filter set.
But every time i see this pic , i cant wait for next return and i will have the filters by then and be ready!

My favorite shot was taken purely by accident. It was suppose to be Lagoon nebula, late in the night using the scopes goto. I managed to cature both the Trifid and Lagoon in the same shot and in focus too.
Alchemy..... Love your shot of Jupiter.. If you look directly at it it almost appears to move. Interesting to say the least. Can't wait to see what you get in colour.
Heres one of my best (and longest ever) astrophotos
