Thanks JJJ, I hope to start site excavations in the next week or so, probably pour the concrete in a fortnight if things go to plan.
I will post images as the project progresses

Climate

I just gave up ranting. Got myself a 8" newtonion and found that the best viewing nights are when the missus has planned for us to go out!

Lately I got the DSI pro version 1 from Bintel (on special reduced price) and had near gale force winds and lots of dust in the atmosphere mixed with the sudden bouts of cloud and rain! Yes here in Adelaide! thought we were to shrivel up die berfore we saw that again.

I guess we need to all buy our upgrades at the same time so the rest of the year is good viewing???

Having spent most of my life in the west of Scotland, I can only say that the weather in Sydney is great for astronomy. I've had more clear nights in the last three years than the previous thirty!

Mind you, I've still been clouded out for special events a few times here, too...

latest forecast for Melb remains poor. Saturday night might be a chance atm but weather maps show a very poor, cold and cloudy reality

I believe patience is an essential ingredient of being a happy amateur astronomer. Patience with the seeing, patience with the weather, with the equipment, with the light pollution - so may I please have patience - RIGHT NOW! I GOTTA HAVE IT RIGHT NOW!!!

The Melbourne clouds shall pass away, in several months time (to be replaced by bushfire smoke!)

I have faith that next Friday night at Snake Valley is going to be superb - regardless of the weather forecast!

my patience doesn't quite stretch beyond 3 weeks.....

absolutely lost my patience with our "delightful" climate. Bring on the bush fire smoke

tonight was hoping to do some DSO hunting, but low and behold - here's what the forecast reads: "Partly cloudy with a shower or two, becoming more frequent late in the afternoon and evening as moderate northwesterly winds shift southwesterly." Saturday doesn't look promising at all, but there's a chance it might clear off.

The weather maps for today also show a jetstream right over southern Victoria to top it off.

The 7 day forecast just looks scrumptious (read: s**t). 3 cheers for Melbourne's climate!

I HATE SPRING!

I'll amend it for you...

"Partly cloudy with a shower or two especially over Berwick."

Even I'm starting to look at the sky and think, "wow, SAB's not going to be happy".

^^ I'm cut, man. Really, really cut. Maybe some of it is stress from massive workload at uni - but yeah I'm enraged.

Doug, is it clear where you are? Here in the CBD its overcast.

Same local lunatic suffered that horrendous cloud streak, the only 3 reasonably clear nights in the first 10 weeks I think were - yes you guessed it - 2 full moons, plus a 3rd night that was just one day off the full moon.

Glorious with a capital "NO CLOUDS". But guess who has a meeting tonight and too much else to do to get outside

last clear night in Melb was Oct 20th. Next one won't come until next TUes/Wed which makes it almost 3 weeks of total cloud

Buy new gear while it is cloudy!
I've always found that the amount of cloud cover is inversely proportional to the amount of night-time moon!
