I reacon if you looked at the full image you would even see the blue reflection nebula buried in the dark nebula. I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure I can see some "blobbiness" around the stars where it is.
It's probably just CA, Paul. I've attached a full-res crop of the blob.

I had to keep it out of picture because Jupiter was too close and didn't want the reflections.

No of course, Roger. I prefer the new version too. I originally went back and forwards with the levels but stopped short of what I should have.
i agree with the others, a black border does look better. i think the image could have been a little darker / higher contrast buy i'm not sure, I havn't seen it like that. nice image regardless!
Very good work Mike.
You should be very happy indeed.
Black surrounds is cool as is a small white one but I think the border is small consideration.. it is excellent work happy in any surround.
alex
you have to be pretty proud of that one.......any nude struts?
what did the family think about this one, it is a great image after all
Thanks Dave. I haven't shown the family yet, only finished processing it yesterday. But it'll sure be on proud family display on the fridge with my kids drawings

Thanks Josh.
The camera is not cooled or modded in any way, it's a standard Canon 350D. I use no darks or flats. I did use ICNR, so for a 5 minute light, it took an automatic 5 minute dark and subtracted it.
Paul I noticed that in the brighter version too - I was wondering what the dark nebula was from.
It's no Gary Hill, but i'm pleased with how it turned out. Next time I'll go for a mosaic covering more area, or like Gary's, a mosaic at higher resolution.
You are making me blush Mike...
I think plenty of members here could do just as good a image..just lucky David liked mine!
Your redone image goods great!!! I don`t think you could get it any better.
cheers
