Hi Gazz, who would want to a coach in any code nowadays. I think he's keeping a watchful eye over his shoulder.

Cheers

I was at last nights A league match at Energy Australia stadium. Sadly though the jets peppered Sydneys goal a few times we never got in, wheras eventually Sydney found the corner of Newcastle's, shot in from a mass of players vying for the ball right in front of Newcastles goal mouth. The hapless goalie never had a chance to move, and he vented his frustration kicking at the net at the back of the goal. That was the only goal in the match. Sydney FC 1 jets nil

Well the bell has tolled for Smithy at Perth, just heard on the news that he has got the chop from Perth management. I hope the Glory have a change of fortune for the remainder of the season.

I didn't think Smith had long to go before he got the chop.
Here is the latest table.
The Jets just can't seem to win agianst Sydney, the Mariners had a good win agianst Melbourne,Queensland had a great win over Adelaide and the Phoenix done the poor Glory like a turkey dinner.

Tornado I had to take a bus load of teachers to Sydney yesterday, even so I'm banned from the Jets games for 4 weeks for refusing to comply with a police direction during the Phoenix home game so I should be able to get back to the ground in the no to distant future.

Team........................ P W D L F A GD Pts

Perth had a great win over the jets. It's amazing how a change of coach can life a team. Melbourne and Sydney played out a boring Nil all draw, nice wins for Central Coast over Adelaide and Queensland over Wellington. The Central Coast are 6 points clear and you could throw a blanket over the next 5 teams. Looks like things are going to be fun as the last half of the season is well under way. Good to hear that a national youth league and a womens A league will be starting next year

Team............................ P W D L F A GD Pts
Central Coast Mariners .....12 7 2 3 16 9 7 23
Queensland Roar .............12 5 4 3 16 13 3 19
Adelaide United ...............12 4 5 3 18 14 4 17
Newcastle United Jets .......12 4 5 3 12 12 0 17
Sydney FC.......................12 4 4 4 12 12 0 16
Melbourne Victory..............12 3 6 3 11 13 -1 15
Wellington Phoenix ............12 3 2 7 15 23 -8 11
Perth Glory ......................12 1 6 5 13 17 -4 9

Go Perth, thats a 100% improvement.

It's good that they starting up a youth and womens league. with this and the Asia league it is exactly the shot in the arm that football needs in Australia.
This is what will make us consistent when it comes to the world cup.

I agree Ric. Things can only get better from here on. Good to see Aloisi get a good start to his HAL career. I hope more big names want to spend the last few years of their careers here. They wont need big money seeing they earn $100,000 plus each week in the giant European leagues.

I agree Gazz, to get some big names like Kewell, Viduka or Emmerton playing a few years in the HAL would be fantastic with the skill and knowledge that they could pass onto the younger players.

Better still if they could take up coaching positions.

Numbers wise we are the largest of the winter sports codes and even with main stream media ignoring us totally or when they do report anything its always negative. Things are percieved to be looking good for the future of this great game. Buy in truth what we need now is security/police letting up on the fans a little. I can (sort of) understand trying to take out some of the passion on the pitch, but when they force the fans into not enjoying themselves too much it can only hurt the game. After last weeks home game agianst Perth I talked to at least a dozen supporters who said they wont go back to matches because of the way they were treated by security. Three of them are season ticket holders and have been ever since the HAL started. Ticket prices start at $19.00 at Energy Australia Stadium and the beers are $5.00 for a plastic cup. So there is a lot of money being spent to go and watch. My local club has big screen tv's and cocktails for $5.00 and the security there know who I and my friends are, so the don't give us grief. I love watching the game live but not at the expence of my friends and family being looked down upon and victimised by cardboard coppers. My friends were even being stopper by the police and having their soft drinks sniffed, even though they were over 18. If this is the way the club and the HAL want to treat their most dedicated fans, we will start to spend our hard earned somewhere else. From reading the papers on the cricket at the GABBA it seems like the same thing is happening there also. The trouble these days, sport is looked on as a business to make money, not a thing of passion and pride. The administrators of a lot of these codes have never been fans so they dont understand the hearts and minds of the grass roots supporters.

Sorry about the rant but I had tp get it off my chest,

Gazz

Perfectly understandable Gazz and I agree.

Supporters are the heart and soul of any club if you drive them away then you lose your financial support and when that is gone then the administrators are usually sacked for not making the club financial.

Therefore it is in there own interest to look after their loyal fan base.

Couldn't agree more

look what happened to sydney in the first season. averaging almost 20,000 a game.. no coincidence that they won.

and melbourne last year, having to move to the Telstra Dome.

it now seems that whoever can get the most people through the turnstiles has it wrapped up

The 1.8 million salary cap is no where near big enough to attract decent players here. Most of the south american players bought this year couldn't cut the mustard and have been sent home or only get half a game each week. What's the betting next year the HAL teams plunder Asia and Afrca for players.

Good wins by the Central Coast and Queensland on the weekend,Adelaide and Newcastle had a hard fought draw as did Wellington and Sydney. Not many goals this week (6) but that just goes to show how close the league is.

Queensland Roar.................13 6 4 3 17 13 4 22
Adelaide United...................13 4 6 3 19 15 4 18
Newcastle United Jets..........13 4 6 3 13 13 0 18
Sydney FC.........................13 4 5 4 13 13 0 17
Melbourne Victory...............13 3 6 4 11 14 -3 15

No wins at all this weekend, four draws, looks like the salary cap in stiffling another code. At least the Jets are still in the top four, we are away to Queensland next week. I think I would be happy if we come away with a point in that game.

Central Coast Mariners.....14 8 3 3 17 9 8 27
Queensland Roar.............14 6 5 3 17 13 4 23
Adelaide United...............14 4 7 3 20 16 4 19
Newcastle United Jets......14 4 7 3 13 13 0 19
Sydney FC.....................14 4 6 4 13 13 0 18
Melbourne Victory............14 3 7 4 12 15 -3 16
Wellington Phoenix...........14 3 4 7 17 25 -8 13
Perth Glory.....................14 1 7 6 14 19 -5 10
