Yes I am one of the confirmed "tragics".... or "Whovian" as they are generally referred to.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/

http://www.drwho-online.co.uk/

"The programme is listed by the Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television series in the world"
(from a Wikipedia article)

I thought Christopher Ecclestone from the 2005 series was awesome but I have to admit that David Tennant from 2006/2007 is growing on me a lot.

I think what has made the "new" series (plural) so good has been the excellent stories they have written. In the new 45 minute format the stories have been faster, more "punchier" but they have managed to put in so much more character development.

The cross linking between stories to make a whole ongoing concept has been excellent, ie the ongoing "Bad Wolf" them in the 2005 series was cleverly done, but the "so far" partially evolved theme of the Doctor as the "lonely traveller" or the "lonely god" has got my interest and I cant wait to see how it develops. There is still the Doctor's 3rd and "final" meeting with The Face of Boe to come yet, which apparently occurs in Episode 3 of the 2007 series, in which The Face of Boe will reveal a great secret according to the Doctor and Boe's previous meeting.

(I know of a website where the new series has been available to view online as each episode has been released in the UK but I have specifically avoided temptation so far, thank God the new series starts on the ABC this week!)

There has also been a massive amount of online work done in creating websites that link in to many of the stories too - very clever stuff!

My favourite of these is the Torchwood House website:

Doctors I know of were:

1 William Hartnell
2 Patrick Troughton
3 John Pertwee
4 Tom Baker
5 Peter Davidson
6 Colin Baker
7 Sylvestor McCoy
8 Paul McGann
9 Christopher Eccleston
10 David Tennant

Peter Cushing played the doctor in the two Dalek films. Some kids hid behind the sofa when the Daleks came on, but school playgrounds were full of kids running around yelling "EXTERMINATE", I was one of them! Sad Aren't I?

There was a special fund raising Dr Who "story" called "The Curse of Fatal Death" that was never created as part of the genuine series, although it was "Sanctioned" as such being for charity.

It featured no less than 5 incarnations of the Doctor in one story, due to a rapid series of accidents and "Exterminations" - the roles being played by Rowan Atkinson, Richard E Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant (who was offered the role ahead of Christopher Ecclestone for the 2005 series, and who has publicly said he regrets dismissing it when he saw how good the series was) and finally the first female Doctor ever, Joanna Lumley!

This is available on VHS, I've got it and it is very funny, well worth getting if you are a fan at all!

"The Curse of Fatal Death" I think I'd have to hunt that one down and buy it.

Cool. I'm glad I'm not joining it half way through.

I really enjoyed the last series and the ending when he had to say goodbye to Rose was quite sad. A very good series, and it will be a challenge to match it.

The special effects and makeup used to create the Spider Lady character were excellent.
My only complaint was that the dialogue written for her was poor. It could have been taken straight out of an old Batman script. She played a Villain not an Alien.
That said though,
The boys and I enjoyed it immensely.

It was good, reminded me a bit of the Planet of Spiders series where the doctor (John Pertwee) regenerated at the end to become the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker). They seem to have kept the costs down by filming in London instead of on a set. Dr Who has definietly gone up a few notches since the slump in the Colin Baker era.

Not bad - I like the new companion already. I'm still not sure about David Tennant though... I thought that Eccleston was more authoritative and generally made a better Doctor...... but I'm going to give him a go.

I think that with David Tennant the writers are starting to explore a more darker side of the good Doctor that has been evident in a few episodes, it makes things a lot more interesting so long as they keep the balance.

As far as I'm concerned.....
Dr Who is a little like Jame Bond....
and no-one has mentioned Jon Pertwee.......
