I used PS2 to make (L) using R and G multiplied at 66% and the resultant layer multiplied with B at 33%.
Then I used UM and Levels just on (L).
Finalized with a touch of gauss.
Unfortunately I noted the jpeg artifact degradation

I have to learn how to do this one day.

I have no idea what you mean when you say "multiplied at 66%" or "multiplied with B at 33%"

I'm only using PS in a very limited way (curves, levels, colour adjust etc)

But I appreciate you taking the time on my image and telling me what you did

nice one matty. plenty of detail there. i recon the 2 reprocesses have introduced too many atrifacts and stuff.
