I had a pleasant, low tech, non-imaging, simple viewing session last night. It was so much easier and quicker to set up - no CCD cameras, tangle of cables, power supply, calibration, etc.

I might just become an astro-minimalist, although I won't downsize as far as a push-to dob!

Cheers

Dennis

I know the feeling Paul! Last few nights have been like that for me.
But now I have the new FLT APO, I know it's gonna be crap for the next few months...
I must admit to secretly supporting the Maroon's on Wed night. What a game though. Very enjoyable to watch.
Cheers

I ended up getting out last night. A bit jumpy but better than being stuck inside.

The pressure is on now though

I had some fun outside last night. A few clouds around at about 11pm when I went out but they cleared off for me so I could see the end of the Io transit (didn't get to see the shadow though ).

I got some pics too! Only managed two Jupiter AVIs until the batteries ran flat though (and I had the camera set too dark so I got the ugly onion rings!). Not my best work, but better than not going out at all

Tonight looks no good though. Too bad, I even recharged my camera batteries!

Nice one Chris. I see you're still getting that egg shape. Have you worked out what it causing that?

Chris,
You're still capturing Afocal aren't you? Maybe your camera is not quite straight and the curvature of the EP is giving you this egg shape.
Just a thought.

Yeah, I think its due to the camera/eyepiece etc all not lining up properly (though I haven't really gone to any lengths to fix the problem). Though I guess you'd expect them not to line up when you've got the focuser extended a bit with a barlow, eyepiece then a video camera sitting on the end. I guess it all just sags a bit. It's not in any danger of breaking off though.

LOL So long as you're not having to hold it all up by hand eh. Isn't that a drag.
