Looks great Greg -the Quad TCC certainly looks to be one of the best reducers out there.

Thanks. It didn't come with the Quad TCC I have upgraded it to the GTX 3.5 inch focuser, the 3.5 inch flattener and now the Quad TCC.

Glad to see some results through it. The Lagoon's so beautifully captured.
Thanks very much. This FOV is very similar to an FSQ106 but with larger aperture (585mm versus FSQ 530mm). So a bit like an FSQ130.

Thanks very much. So far the tilt correction has been straightforward. That last little bit was hard to tell if spacing or tilt. Spacing though should really affect all 4 corners so that narrowed it down.

There is something about a refractor that can't be beaten.
One little thing -
the stars are missing colour.
Would you have needed to take some short exposures - say 10 seconds -
with that QHY600 to retain some colour?

The RGB are 120 seconds which is pretty short. I did have some registration difficulties and the correction may have been a tad harsh. Yes I thought they were a bit colourless as well. I will go back and see if I can correct that. I usually use 5 or 10 minutes much the same as CCDs as this CMOS is 16bit and the short exposure strategy is more aimed at the 12 and 14 bit cameras to get the bit depth up by using lots of sub exposures. The colour is still in the data so I'd say this is a processing question.

cheers
Allan

Unconvinced about this colour version though with it's muted star colours, presumably because of the moon being up?

You must be a very happy camper now with these lovely new toys.
Thanks Andy. Yes the star colours are weak as noted above. I'll go back and see if I can get them more saturated. It should be in the data.

Thanks Marc. I prefer this scope to the AP140 I had. Smaller, lighter and quite a bit faster. I've read the AP140 used the AP160 tube.

Greg.

Apart from the less than exciting star colours, this is a really nice image Greg!

Thanks. Next clear no moon night I'll take some more RGB and longer exposures. RGB in this image is only 12 minutes each (6 x 120 secs) under a nearly full moon.
That should handle the star colours.

Alternate version with better star colour

Here's an alternate processed image keeping the golden stars near the Milky Way core accurate and the dark dust lanes. After checking several images of this area this seems fairly accurate as to star colours as there isn't a lot of diversity in star colour but mostly golden yellow core stars.
