1.... I'm doing the speed limit in the left hand lane....the person behind me tries to ' push ' me to go faster ...yet the right hand lane is for ' boy racers '

Col....
Is this the ultimate sarcasm Col
Is your wisdom suggesting that our outlook is determined by where we fit into the picture.
Well done I nearly missed it ...Very clever and by my definition subtle.

Jeremy in Australia some twit (who was probably barely literate) circa 1975 decided those attending public skools didn’t need to lern spieling or gramer as they wood most likly be tradies.
Only those snotty private schools taught these as no doubt their students would be going to uni to study law or medicine, etc.
A few decades later someone else decided we had to be the "knowledge nation" and decided all had to have tertiary education. The only snag however being by that time, few teachers could actually spell, even fewer knew what a “past participle” is, let alone spot a split infinitive in the wild. And as for apostrophes... clueless.
And now we have a massive shortage of tradies, while those with PhD's in astrophysics are reduced to driving taxis, or worse, Ubers.
Only partially correct. '75 was about the time Whitlam made the Dole a Living wage, Schools adopted the YANK system for reading called "Whole language" and, all of a sudden, kids were not allowed to "fail" and repeat a year. Discipline and respect for teachers ended. Complete disaster on all counts.
I experienced most of that as a spectator. I have been teaching for the past 20 years. Teachers get paid a crap wage and are under some of the highest stress levels in the country = High burn out, or in my case, TWO heart attacks. I did over 500 hours UNPAID overtime last year alone. PLEASE DON'T EVEN USE THE WORD HOLIDAY around me!
You can blame teachers for this mess if you like but I'd suggest a look at family and governance. A teacher gets 6 minutes 1:1 per student per week, if they are lucky.
- Most education occurs at home. Who sits their kids in front of the idiot box watching "Simpsons" or "Goggle Box" or other amazingly stupid content?
- Government sets policy and has been changing curriculum to match dogma for decades. Each rips down the predecessor as a matter of principle.
- No incentive to study, no study, dumb people. Dumb population = TRUMP, SCOMO, BORIS etc.etc.
Excuse any typo's etc. I am preparing for a class. Oh yeah, I've been teaching with a broken leg for the last 20 weeks... Dedicated D.F.
If we are looking for someone to blame for our cultural demise I say look no further than Hollywood for it is Hollywood that sets the mood and sadly they exercise no restraint in promoting stuff that frankly could be seen as an attempt to destroy brain cells on a mass destruct basis...Think Fast and Furious, Charmed and the various movies glorifying macho stupidity...not to mention the bias in all the supernatural type movies shoring up an unsupported belief that the selected entity is only on the side of the capitalistic West.
After years of their swill what do you expect? That somehow a mum and dad who no doubt grew up with the same exposure suddenly get an overwhelming desire to read Plato and take up anthropology.
Our leaders are no more than lead sheep getting us to obsess over sport cooking and greed.
And our guards of morality show by example the teachings of their hero are just irrelevant platitudes offered up when the plate is sent to collect the price of addmission.
And now we have video games designed no doubt to numb countless minds into accepting a heavy density housing project life akin to that of battery hens and make them capable at least of ordering food by the phone and interacting only via a screen.
Go to MacDonalds..you now order via a screen why bother going in even ..order via the screen and bring it around please.
And yet it is a beautiful world if you ignore the BS and seek truth and determine you will live in a reality free of superstition and contrived heroes. Seek to educate yourself in spite of the push that wants you to avoid such and for stimulation just follow various teams chasing a ball in various situations presenting a variety of approaches to such obsession with balls to let all the ball followers believing that somehow they are superior to that other group of ball followers.
And sadly that is how so many humans define themselves ..can no one see a problem for a human to proudlydeclare that they follow such and such a team in such and such a code of ball obsession.. and to insist upon realities that are proven to be lies by well researched historians fending of any casual accusation of make believe with a declaration of resting their case upon a complete abdication of any requirement for reasonable evidence....and to manipulate the world such that reasonable discussion of such lack of reasonableness is simply out of bounds in polite conversation.... there is so much wrong with our culture it can only sadly colapse thru lack of substance and virtue.
I wonder how it goes on other planets....?

Wynyard. Been there and I know the pie shop. Upper Crust in Collaroy is the best I know of, and has won many awards for pies and pasties.
- advertising, which is out of control and 99.9% totally unnecessary;
.
There's one, you spend a load of money in a shop and have to pay for a carrier bag that has THEIR shop name etc on the bag so you are paying to advertise their blasted shop for them as you walk around
You can't get a proper Cornish pasty in Australia. Unless a Cornishman / Cornishwoman makes you one.
Here's a couple of favourites from Kernow...
I live in wales, I have travelled all over the UK, Scotland, Devon, England and it is amazing how many say Cornish Pasty but they are not made in Cornwall, so illegal

Nope, not illegal under the PGI (Protected Geographical Indicator) in Australia at least: a clarification of the Protected Geographical Status ruling has confirmed that pasties made in Australia are still allowed to be called "Cornish Pasties" (wiki).
We are special though , since the European Commission ruling, imposed 2011, means that only pasties cooked in Cornwall according to the traditional recipe can be called Cornish pasties.

It is illegal to call a Cornish pasty NOT not made in cornwall, as it is to say a "Melton Mowbray" pork pie is MM but not made IN MM, I am talking UK not other countries
The traditional Cornish pasty, which since 2011 has Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status in Europe,[2] is filled with beef, sliced or diced potato,
