Well when you think about it a thin mirror has many advantages, I think but to control one you need to have it in its own chamber with temp control.. I think that was the only valid argument against the approach. I recon that one must be able to build adaptive optics..where they site a pretend start with a laser and then bend the mirror (with the computer) to suit the seeing. I bet these days the necessary gear is cheap...I bet its simple really for someone to build such a set up but it would not be worth doing unless you had a perfect surface to start with. Maybe your mate would be the man. I started a 24 inch but broke the glass… keep meaning to get some more and get going with that project but being a Father and a Son leaves me little of the “time bits” you need for such a project..it would be like bike racing …in the garage for three days (and nights) straight until it is ready.. testing and set up would consume months alone. Still it appeals to me.
Anyways I put off make scope making because stuff is so cheap and photography means you can make your scope as big as you like sortta.
Anyways you don’t need to hear all of the designs on the table …mmm maybe just the scopes not the boats, houses inventions.etc etc. time for the guitar to much stimulation. It was that cerium oxide that set me off

Don't worry, I won't be selling my LP any time soon!!!!!!
Have you seen some of the awful fakes coming out of china at the moment? Some of them claim to be Jimmy Page signature series and sell for a few hundred dollars insted of $10k++ . There are some really good licenced fakes that have been made in Japan by Orville and Epiphone but they don't hide the fact they're not made by Gibson, and they sound fantastic and cost a lot less than the real thing

I believe there is a town/city in China by the name of USA so be careful , I have seen a nice Fender from there . But I have picked up excellent guitars from different countries in hock shops ..good by the ear and eye irrespective of where they came from.. and a bit of setting up often transforms an instrument .

there is great stuff coming out of china (and indonesia) at least in the bass world - I have some still bass playin mates, and they hang out on the bass forums ect. and knows of of US pro studio players abandoning their $2000 -3000+ and vintage fender presicions/jazz? after buying a handmade 200 - 300 chinese copy (cant remember the name ) and ditching the pick ups of course (but you do that with the fenders anyway) made by artisans who have worked with wood for 1000's of years, just not basses, until now. watch out for them
If i wanted a les paul (or any collecters market artificially inflated git) i would get a copy made by a quality luthier (like brian west) for a quarter of the price it costs to buy one of those - he built an exact copy of a 1954 les paul (black beauty) for a mate (amongst many others), sourced the woods from the exact same source/batches in the US as the originals were made from - it was identical in everyway (except in resale value - the brand logo isnt on there of course) awesome value. sometimes i hate the investers market, those people that have hundreds of these invester 'famous name models' and they are never ever played - outrageous!
pick-ups are most of your sound in electric anyway (95%) - so replacing them in a cheap model, and as alex says a bit of tweaking/setting up, and hey presto you got something
and btw weres the wammy bar aint a electric git without a classy floating tremelo IMO

Yes indeed ..there is a builder up here (Jim Mills, his wife is my daughters head mistress) who does the best fender tele I have seen but not cheap, I let him work on my gibson once.. my nephew (who I find out this morning is now worthy to be called Professor (he was one of thye kids who got one of my guitars)) has one and I have had the pleasure of hours upon it. Best wood perfect like a v8 super car so its the best the design allows.

A mate showed me a site, rosewood scratch plates, pearl inlaid necks stuff for violins as well but things to make your guitar absolutley unique..er if someone did not stumble on your combination but heck you can build one pretty guitar. Reasonable prices I thought. Probably a quid in putting them together like most things your experience pays off so many ways if you would let it.

I love playing slide but can only do it reasonable if the guitar is over my knees sitting like a lap steel . but I play a bit in open tunings without a slide with suitable scale runs..hilly billy just pops out when playing in open G deliverance type stuff without even looking . I need to go to a jam around here I have not gone to one for a while .. pretend your eric for an afternoon

Saw the same trip with a strat I near died laughing..had rust even. What people will do to take a quick path to being there ..fake it until you make ..use that approach all the time so buy the dream only $10,000. I alaways told a big story to go with a guitar I gave away so the new owner felt it was special and they could love it.. important part of getting thru the initial grind.
