Clever it may, but those two pieces of tapping rate right up there with
the most tuneless repetitive "music" I've ever heard come from a guitar.

I know what you are saying Raymo.

It is often said that less is more for guitar solos.

What happens is as a guitarist you get caught up in going fast and crambing more in..and for many guitarists the feel gets lost in the furious pace.

When playing intricate stuff fast its like racing..you are holding on the ragged edge and near crashing at every turn.

I used to like Joe Satriani because he made you envious of his sckill but after a while I realised his stuff was more an exercise in technical ability rather than producing pleasing music.

The girl tapping was playing something that is generally regarded most highly as it is a composition from one of the greats...I cant remember but it was a classical piece.

When you play guitar you tend to focus on how difficult it is to play what you are watching being performed and i guess the music is almost secondary☺.

I like above all really simple stuff..ZZ Top in particular.

Although the various players mentioned in this thread may not deliver for many I certainly wish I could play at one tenth their level..particularly that David dude playing with the famous backing vocalist☺

What is a wonder is the variety of stuff you can get from what is only 7 note scale ( ok add sharps and flats).

With the young lady, I was already tapped out by the previous tapping, so
I switched off before she finished with the tapping and moved on to the actual
music.

Where to buy

I notice that an IIS member asked in another thread about where they could get a reasonable guitar and amp, and thought I would suggest one place that has some incredible bargains in music equipment, which is Artist Guitars in St Peters, Sydney:

https://www.artistguitars.com.au/

I have bought some equipment from these guys and can't fault them. Sure most of what they sell is house branded, China or Asian made gear, but hey it works just fine. You don't need a $4k Rickenbacker if your just messing around or learning. The important things are: can it stay in tune, is the action reasonable, and the electronics work. It's similiar to the debate about telescopes, be it a TAK or a Chinese made APO, they both can do the job for most people.

Artist Guitars does provide demo videos for most of the gear they sell, so you can check out the sound before you buy, which is important.

I have bought an eight piece drum kit from them, a drum amp, headphones, cables, etc; can't fault any of it. I am sure there are many other music shops that have similiar product lines, and I know there are a fair number in Newcastle. My electric guitar is a 20 year old SG copy made by Cort, but it sounds just fine for my purposes, and hold tune for months. But the masterpiece is my 1972 SYairi (YW-30) six string acoustic, hand made by Mr Yairi himself in Nagoya Japan; purchased new in Canada by me and I will never part with it.

You know that glasses make you look older right...that is so true cause when I put mine on and look in the mirror I look much older than when I look without them...without an 18 year old looks back but the glasses show the umfortunate detail.

I would start a band but the groupies following me around I just could not handle.

Its funny the appeal of being a rock star..I think it would be a pain..I recall playing at the pub as an extra unneeded guitar with my brother in laws band..all I did was push the drunks off the stage..and then after when all go home to have more fun we are left packing up... and if you are a sucess you get a different place to sleep each night.maybe playing three different venues a night..attracting girls even different ones each night...shallow folk and no interesting conversation..I cant see the value...they are bad enough just chasing you in the super market ..how much worse if you are exciting them with rock music..

And I often wonder how Jimmy Barnes feels when they all ask for him to sing working man..again...it would make you want to be sick I recon yet he has to smile and perform like its the only time he has sung it..not that I think he can sing unfortunately.

Its easy to see why astronomy wins hands down for the best way to spend your evenings.

☺ not great. I like most rock singers but I dont recongnise his talent...much like Bob Dylan I dont think much of him either. But clearly both have an appeal to their audience but I am not a fan.
