I've lived here for 50+ years but am still a 'permanent resident'. One of these days I'll save up enough to pay for the privilege (for those of you who don't know it costs quite a few bob), travel a couple of hours to get to the interview and then wonder why I bothered.

I'll be as proud as all get-out when I've finally got that bit of paper.

For me it'll simply be an official and public declaration of my commitment to and affection for this country and what it represents.
