Only another rider would check out the chicken strips ! Most of us went through the squid phase when we were 18, and those of us who survived it are probably better for it. And your point about the superbike school is bang on, although rather than handing money off to scientologists (Keith Code even dedicates those books to LRH!) most race clubs organise good track days with coaching that teaches the same drills - third gear, no brakes, roll on the throttle, etc.
Anyway - I hope poor old mate here lived and learned. I recently had a young squid zoom past me in the emergency lane in Perth and at the time I was sufficiently incensed that I thought I'd run him down and try and talk some sense in to him. I didn't, and two days later there was his little zxr250 buried deeply in the back of a broken down car in the same emergency lane. He hit it so hard both wrecks were back out in the traffic. I don't think he would have lived. If I had run him down would he have listened?
Anyway - I feel it's a bit harsh for others to suggest that a momentary lapse of judgement like this deserves the death penalty. Be different if it was a brother or sister I'm sure.
We're all in this together, and nobody gets out alive.
cheers,
Andrew.

I think the motorbike rider may of been a bit inexperienced. The reason why i say this is by looking at the chicken strips on the front and rear tyres. i think he just got out of his depth and either freaked out (aka by not leaning enough) or hit some slick on the road which made the bike unstable and lost control by pulling off the throttle and hitting the brakes which may of made it worse for him. There is a whole lot of theory on this, twist of the wrist is a great read to explain all of this. I know when my rear end has come loose by keeping on the revs and not transferring the weight to the front of the bike by front braking has saved my butt more then once!

On a good point at least he was doing stupid crap by himself at 2am in the morning, where he won't hit another car or person but go somewhere you can learn without hurting someone. In saying this, he needs to learn how to use the bike properly through some good mentors, and hopefully he has learnt the hard way!.

Been riding all weather all over Aus 40 yrs had a few majors and lotsa close calls, Im a careful respectful road user and on the whole think most car drivers are too, Im aware bikes can easily be blind spotted so I always measure twice cut once. As to OP unfortunately some riders let the power and thrill go to their head, their choice, eventually learn to slow down or suffer the consequences...

Not entirely their choice: risk taking, impulsive behaviour combined with poor judgement are well known features of youth, especially young males. The male brain was once considered mature at 25 but I think the age has been revised upward recently.

I haven't read scientific articles but I imagine risk taking when young was once advantageous to promoting ones own genetic line.

All true and yes more than likely an inherent genetic trait in young males, rite of passage, show off, impress the girl etc. One really good scare can be enuff in some case not all. I try to avoid pigeonholing one particular age group coz I ride with some young guys that are actually surprisingly mature in their on road antics. But others even older...well.... they're fools I guess and make no mistake they get told. I definitely don't take and are aware of the many risks I used to take when younger, I suppose Ive grown up..
